This is the first line of a song from "South Pacific," one of the best Broadway plays written. The lyrics to this song has always run true to me. They represent how the worst of our thoughts are allowed to fester and garner strength.

You've got to be taught to hate and fear
It has to be drummed in your dear little ear
It's got to be carefully taught.

What Donald Trump and those like him are doing is trying to educate or reeducate American citizens. We are meant to believe that Barack Obama is not one of us. He is unAmerican. He doesn't think like the average person. He has an agenda to ruin America.

And on and on..

Unfortunately, if this is said more and more, day in and day out, month after month, this evil starts to sink in. And this is exactly what the Republicans are doing. They are hell bent on spreading their lies, making sure they start to stick in people's minds.

If they can't win an election on their merits, they will use fear and hate, making sure much of this fear and hate is spread to every state. They will try to stop those immune to hate from voting.

In short- they will say or do anything; stand or use anyone to gain the power they so desperately want. And I fear that if they get that power, they will never let it go. That is their plan.

We must stop them. It is imperative to all that Mitt Romney is not allowed to inhabit the White House.

I don't know about anyone of you out there, but the thought of a Romney presidency, made up of Bush's neo-con advisors, scare the heck out of me.

I have anxiety attacks thinking about it. So- we have to make sure that we all do what we can to reelect Barack Obama. Call, knock on doors, send emails with the truth, GOTV!
We need to help those who will be disenfranchised, stopped from voting, to make sure they have the proper ID. Drive people to the polls. Stick a lawn sign on your lawn.

Do anything. Because those who seek power today are not like any others. They mean to harm us, the average person, the elderly, the disabled, the poor. They care not for how our lives turn out.

And I believe we really are one election away from the hunger games- for real!

We must band together, put aside our doubts and disappointments- otherwise we allow evil to win. We survived eight years of Bush, but even one year of Romney will do harm.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

that so many clueless right wingers have been conned into believing.

Sometimes I can really feel sorry for them.  Pity.

Presented with the facts showing up in their every day lives, so many of these people are so in denial, they are now believing the lies they no to be false.

Case in point:  I know two staunch conservatives who constantly bash Obamacare.  Yet last month, when their 24 year old daughter needed an emergency appendectomy, how wonderful that she was covered by their insurance.  "But that's not Obamacare" they denied.  "She would have been covered anyway, we just had to add her on."

Like sheep being led to slaughter, the republicans have worked hard to eradicate any independent thought from their followers.

And, through hate-filled rhetoric, have turned even family members into the enemy.

GOTV!  And talk to people.  Tell them the truth.

    ahead of their time...

    From Wikipedia:

"You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" (sometimes "You've Got to Be Taught" or "Carefully Taught") is a show tune from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific.

South Pacific received scrutiny for its commentary regarding relationships between different races and ethnic groups. In particular, "You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught" was subject to widespread criticism, judged by some to be too controversial or downright inappropriate for the musical stage.[1] Sung by the character Lieutenant Cable, the song is preceded by a lyric saying racism is "not born in you! It happens after you’re born..."

Rodgers and Hammerstein risked the entire South Pacific venture in light of legislative challenges to its decency or supposed Communist agenda. While the show was on a tour of the Southern United States, lawmakers in Georgia introduced a bill outlawing entertainment containing "an underlying philosophy inspired by Moscow."[2] One legislator said that "a song justifying interracial marriage was implicitly a threat to the American way of life."[2] Rodgers and Hammerstein defended their work strongly. James Michener, upon whose stories South Pacific was based, recalled, "The authors replied stubbornly that this number represented why they had wanted to do this play, and that even if it meant the failure of the production, it was going to stay in."[2]

    [Emphasis added.]

If we had an independent media, this election would be over.

    for the song alone.

This song is referred to, time and again, by Kossacks. I don't prowl about Republican websites, but my guess is that they NEVER talk about this song, or the sentiment it espouses..

    It speaks volumes.

Occupy is the symptom. Fundamental reform is the cure.

Many underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

I see it where I teach. Even on the local level, many teachers will vote for the anti-education person.

I think Michael Jackson's doctor needs to be released from prison, cause if Romney wins, I'll need to be put out for at least four years.

America is being bought by billionaires.
