Hi. I'm Father John-Mark Gilhousen, one of the early KosAbility bloggers, and one-time moderator of the Wednesday Night editions of the group. I've been away from blogging for awhile, my time consumed by my sudden role as full-time family caregiver after my elderly mother sustained a serious fracture in a fall.
My return to Daily Kos coincides with this group's need for a substitute moderator for the Wednesday editions while C.J. recuperates. As I mentioned in a comment here on Sunday, I can't fill his shoes, but I'm pleased and honored to keep his chair warm for him whilst he takes a much-needed and well deserved break.
Tonight's scheduled diary didn't make it into the queue before time for us to convene, so I'm declaring this an open thread. We can discuss issues relating to disability as broadly defined, and/or its intersection with the world of politics and social justice, the bread and butter of Daily Kos. Or share personal triumphs and challenges. Or just get to know each other better. Please follow me past the boilerplate and the orange snickerdoodle, and we can get started.
KosAbility is a community diary series posted at 5 PM ET every Sunday and Wednesday by volunteer diarists. This is a gathering place for people who are living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues surrounding this topic. There are two parts to each diary. First, a volunteer diarist will offer their specific knowledge and insight about a topic they know intimately. Then, readers are invited to comment on what they've read and/or ask general questions about disabilities, share something they've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about the unfairness of their situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered.
