Just got in a mailing purportedly from the Greater Wisconsin Political Fund urging me to vote on June 5th. I'm in Wisconsin, so makes sense so far. Now I say purportedly because it's difficult to fathom the sort of thought process that would lead an organization to send something this downright creepy and intrusive without any apparent shame or concern that it might be taken the wrong way.
The mailing explains that who votes is a matter of public record, that we've been discussing the problem of people not voting for years with the problem only getting worse, and that this organization thinks it's time for a new approach. There's more fluffy verbiage, then a list of your name and the names of several neighbors, all your addresses, whether or not you voted in the general election Nov. 08 and Nov. 10, and an exhortation for you to do your civic duty to vote as well as to knock on the doors of your neighbors to get them to vote.
I'm livid. I've got nothing to prove to my neighbors and they've got nothing to prove to me. If this is actually real, and you guys think you're helping with this name em' and shame em', go screw.
Guess they're wondering about this one over at the DU as well. Just ponderous.
Update: Naranjadia points out a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article that confirms that the Greater Wisconsin Political Fund is not only sending these out, but they're doubling-down by responding to criticism from phone callers with an explanation that this is all public record information. THAT'S NOT THE POINT FELLAS.
