In the midst of a wild and wooly political day, don't forget to take a few minutes to check out the transit of Venus across the sun, the last one in your lifetime!
Live broadcasting by Ustream
(This feed appears to show the transit backwards, but it's the only embeddable one I've found so far; apologies.)
You can view the transit directly, but ONLY through special viewing apparatus or glasses designed to let you look directly at the sun (ordinary sunglasses will not be sufficient). One telescope trained on the transit is the SLOOH robotic telescope. You can view the transit at the SLOOH website.
The live feed begins at 3PM PDT, 6PM EDT.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: hat tip to entrelac in the comments, below, for this link to various observatories also following the transit. Thanks!
UPDATE 2: The transit is now visible on the University of New Mexico feed!
UPDATE 3: Thanks for getting this bumped up to the Rec List, folks - this is cool stuff!
