I never got to go to summer camp when I was a child. At roughly the same time all of my friends were taking off to spend time in the woods making s'mores and singing Kumbaya by the campfire, I was in the station wagon with my parents headed for our annual trip to Florida to visit my grandparents. Not that there wasn't fun to be had in Florida, but I always felt like I was missing out on something grand and wonderful. Now that I'm all growed up and haired over, I still get those same feelings every time Netroots Nation comes around. I've been wanting to go for a few years now but something has always come up. I had promised myself that 2012 would be the year I would finally make it. Leave it to my family to throw a wrench in my plans yet again. My father insisted that we simply must meet up in Las Vegas in mid-June to celebrate my upcoming birthday by feeding the one-armed-bandits and drinking call booze by the pool. Fine. Then my brother announced he was coming to visit me for 10 days in August. My summer vacation time has once again been sucked down the rabbit hole of familial obligation.
So here I sit scrolling through the photos and videos coming out of Providence, green with envy. With everything happening so rapidly on LGBT equal rights, this year in particular seemed the year to be there to fire me up for the big battles lying just ahead. And of course there's that small matter of the Presidential election to really electrify this year's crowd. I'm happy for all of you who are there. Really I am. Even if my jealousy is showing.
I'm comforted by the fact that I'm sitting here in good company though. There are many, many Kossacks here holding down the orange fort waiting for you all to return. We've tied an orange ribbon 'round the old oak tree.
We're dutifully fending off the trolls.
There are still plenty of amazing diaries being posted.
But it just isn't the same without you all. This one goes out to all my fellow Kossacks who had to miss NN too...
If anyone from NN is actually taking time to read this, spread the word that you are missed and to hurry home. We'll leave the light on for you.
And please bring us back a t-shirt.
Now for the Tops!

The pootie queen left diaries for us while she's at NN12, but she's missed in the threads.
From KVoimakas:
Noddy had this awesome comment in her own diary.
From princesspat:
This comment by TomP in his own diary has stayed with me today, and has motivated me to send a donation to the Obama campaign.
From 2thanks:
My response to Bud Field's comment was to weep. I send his remarks to Top Comments because I could not find words. He posted his remarks in Roxine's diary about witnessing the trial of the alleged Penn State pedophile Sandusky (including from the judge's chambers).
Many Top Comments involve chains of hilarity. Not this one. Nor was it written from an abyss of abuse. Merely remarks about the importance of anonymity, the location of the trial contributing to the healing process of that wounded community, the importance of an advocate and witness (Roxine) for survivors of sexual abuse, and how we the DK community might support her. If you are not yet Following Bud Fields and Roxine, I urge you, dear Reader of Top Comments, to do so.
From your diarist Steveningen:
This clever comment by gizmo59 in Crashing Vor's diary The GOP Has a Big Problem took me a minute, but when I figured it out I peed myself a little.
