Ed Case has probably got to be one of the worst blue dogs out there. Not only does he constantly undercut the party like Ben Nelson and Joe Manchin, he has no need to do so since Hawaii is one of the deepest blue states in the union. He also consistently betrays the Democratic Party to help Republicans. He tried to primary Sen. Akaka in 2006, and was responsible for Dems losing a house seat to Djou in 2010. He voted for extremist GOP anti-women amendments when he was in the House that even Tom Delay didn't support and supported Bush's wars and Bush's tax cuts for the rich. He routinely bashes the "far left". A blue dog is actually too generous a label, he's a Republican and clearly only runs as a Democrat because he could never win as a Republican. It's even possible he is to the right of Linda Lingle. Need I say more?
So color me surprised that a new poll shows Hirono and Case tied in the Democratic primary. And why? Because it's an open primary, and he has conservative Republican and teabagger support. Hirono handily wins the Democrat and progressive vote.
If you need any more proof of what a turd this guy is (I don't know why you'd need any), simply check out his website. Despite running in a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY in a state that went 72% for Obama and where he is still extremely popular, his page is littered with Republican talking points. For example:
Ed Case: A Senator for all of Hawaii
Implying he'd continue his "moderate to conservative" voting record despite the fact he'd be representing a heavily Democratic state.
In these critical times for our Hawai'i and country, we cannot afford to stand divided. We're all in this together, we all deserve inclusion in our government, and we must all be part of the solution. These will be my core beliefs in serving all Hawai'i in the U. S. Senate
Typical "bipartisan" garbage. Sounds like the press release he'd have after voting aye on the Ryan budget.
Break Partisan Gridlock
We must forge a new way of governance that rejects pure partisan politics and incorporates our best ideas regardless of origin.
Reach across the aisle for broad inclusion
Act and vote for people and not party first
Reject culture of no regardless of party
Translation: I will be Mitch McConnell's boytoy.
Secure Our Homeland
We must provide for our common defense against the reality of terrorism and international uncertainty.
Strengthen terrorism prevention efforts both internally, at our borders and overseas
Maintain a strong military and take care of our troops both in the field and at home
Strengthen our intelligence capabilities and continue needed reforms
Typical neocon trash.
Address today’s problems today and without handing them off to our children
GOP talking point in their imaginary "debt crisis"
mprove our new health care reform law with addition of tort reform and other cost controls
Continue welfare reform efforts of past decades
Really? That's the best a Democrat from Hawaii can do in health care reform? TORT REFORM, the number 1 Republican talking point, and nothing else? Welfare reform? SERIOUSLY?
This guy is a major ass. Progressives need to Donate to Hirono's campaign, unless they want a new Joe Lieberman just as we're getting rid of the current one. And Obama needs to get on board and endorse Hirono right away, he'd have tons of influence in the state. If Ed Case wins, this is already a Republican pickup, and that's the last thing we need right now.
