Al Sharpton from Politics Nation interviewed Sister Simone Campbell who is organizing a bus tour to draw attention to nuns’ work with the poor and to protest planned aid cuts.

In a spirited retort to the Vatican, a group of Roman Catholic nuns is planning a bus trip across nine states this month, stopping at homeless shelters, food pantries, schools and health care facilities run by nuns to highlight their work with the nation’s poor and disenfranchised.

The bus tour is a response to a blistering critique of American nuns released in April by the Vatican’s doctrinal office, which included the accusation that the nuns are outspoken on issues of social justice, but silent on other issues the church considers crucial: abortion and gay marriage

The sisters plan to use the tour also to protest cuts in programs for the poor and working families in the federal budget that was passed by the House of Representatives and proposed by Representative Paul D. Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican who cited his Catholic faith to justify the cuts.

I believe Paul Ryan is one of the biggest threats to this country. As everyone knows, Mitt Romney has said he'll sign the Ryan budget into law if he's elected president. Nuns on a Bus is a great idea cooked up by some good hearted Sisters who know first hand of the poverty and suffering that goes on in this rich, mighty nation.

In New York's 26th congressional district special election, 2011, Kathy Hotchul  proved that once people are informed of Ryan's cruel, heartless, sadistic plan they become scared. And rightly so! Not only is Ryan a threat to the very neediest among us, he's a threat to the middle class.

If every one can spread the word about Nuns on the Bus and/or contribute by visiting their website, it can only help to stop Paul Ryan.

I apologize if the subject has already been covered; I've been out of town for a few days. I checked Daily Kos and didn't see any recent diaries.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
