I live in Winooski, Vermont, and one of our local political issues is the potential basing of F-35's at the nearby Burlington airport. According to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement prepared by the Air Force most of my community would now be in a noise zone which would be deemed "not considered suitable for residential use." Potential buyers won't qualify for federally guaranteed loans, program assistance, subsidies or housing insurance. This will negatively affect real estate values to say the least. There is a grassroots campaign that has emerged to fight the local basing of F-35's. But guess who supports the local basing of the F-35's: Senators Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy, Congressman Peter Welch, and Governor Peter Shumlin among other "progressive" politicians.
There is no other issue on the political landscape that is potentially more damaging to me. Please contact these politicians, and urge them to come to their senses.
I've attached a link to an editorial opinion in the Burlington FREE PRESS by Roseanne Greco, chairperson of the South Burlington City Council, which opposes the local basing of the F-35's.Link to article on local basing of F-35's by Rosanne Greco
