A day after Rachel Maddow led her Monday show with the "Obama Outhouse" story from the Montana state GOP convention last weekend, a local NBC news reporter tracked down the outhouse creator. Follow me below the fold to meet Dave Hurtt, from Florence, Montana.
For those readers that don't know Montana's political geography, the small town of Florence is in the Bitterroot Valley, just south of Missoula, and is part of Ravalli County, a hot bed of rightwingnuttery for the past 40 or 50 years. Mr. Hurtt appears to be a good ole garden variety wingnut, and certainly not one of the more violent scary characters that inhabit those piney woods down in the Bitterroot.
But let's have Dave Hurtt speaks for himself here:

This obviously as Mr. Hurtt says, is just some old fashion outhouse humor, you know, like where you threaten to shoot up a political leader and call his wife a whore. Some people just don't get it.
No, Mr. Hurtt is not a racist. Some of his most liked politicians are blacks, like Condolezza Rice and Colin Powell. Just ignore the overt racist humor with shooting up an outhouse with a black man's picture inside it and the campaign logo of the first black president on it.
Mr. Hurtt goes on to say that he built the outhouse to protest Obama's policies and strike back at the left wing pundits that "run down the republican party and Newt Gingrich." Just the other day I heard MSNBC pundits refer to prominent republican women political leaders as whores. Happens all the time. NOT!
To the Montana Republican Party's credit, they did ask that the outhouse be removed from the private convention center property last Saturday, and it was moved to a public parking lot across the street. This is something that they failed to mention until the story went viral on the Intertubes over the last couple of days.
This is the result of 24/7 rightwingnut talk radio and Faux News that saturate the airwaves in places like Montana's Bitterroot Valley.
