The gay conservative group GOProud will be endorsing Mitt Romney. Excuse me while I get the taste of vomit out of my mouth.
An out gay Republican makes no sense to me. The closeted, self-loathing gays who cannot accept it makes perfect sense. They get to express their self-loathing proudly and loudly to the world by being cheered on by the likes of NOM and a bunch of organizations with Family in their titles but being anything but oriented towards helping families.
The biggest justification that you'll hear from these gay Republicans as to how they can be members of a party that loathes them is that "change is best done from within". I'm not sure how many of them actually believe this, but anyone who spends a few minutes thinking about it and looking at history will surely see that this is nonsense.
If the gay Republicans truly believe this lame excuse then maybe they can point us to some of their accomplishments because for the life of me I cannot see anything they have done to make the Republican Party any more responsive to gay issues.
Any lessening of the hateful positions that the Republican Party has taken towards the LGBT community has come about due to the public's overall education on the issue which has come about due to changes in laws by Democrats and more realisitic depictions of the community on television and in the movies. The Republican Party and the groups it has aligned itself with have fought tremendously hard to stifle these changes and to denounce Hollywood for years.
So, gay Republicans let's come clean about why you are Republicans - ok?
I'd imagine some of you are filthy rich and like all of the money the Republican Party has saved you over the years in tax breaks. Selfish, but ok, I don't like it but I get it. Just be honest about it.
I'd imagine some of you are Republicans because with your slightly above average intellect you can actually stand out as "a thinker" in the Republican Party. Others may like the attention and rebellious nature of being a gay Republican. "Look at me" I am queer and yet a Republican - "Look at me!". I get it, you have an ego that needs to be stroked and in the Democratic Party it is harder for you to stand out - I mean you might actually have to work at it!
Finally, I'd imagine some of you are Republicans still because you were raised that way and had your head filled with a lot of nonsense that doesn't make sense outside of "the bubble". I get this too. It is hard to learn that most everything you've been led to believe isn't the truth. There does come a time, however, that you have to open your eyes and mind and let the truth in.
I really feel sorry for gay Republicans much like I feel sorry for females, hispanics, blacks and scientists who are Republicans. Unless you are a white, wealthy, conservative male I cannot imagine what must be going on in your head to make you want to be in a party that does their best every day of the year into controlling and marginalizing you for their benefit.
