I think I will give it a try...
Never before in the history of the NBA has such a Cinderella story unfolded. Against all odds, the seventh seeded Oklahoma Raptors defeated the Miami Heat to win their first NBA Championship. Most of the credit can be given to the unlikely hero Kevin Durant. Coming in off the bench the 7 foot center scored 40 points to win on the road against the Heat and claim the championship for the Oklahoma Raptors.
You might expect sour grapes from me, being a Portland Trailblazers fan. We had the chance to draft the high school center Kevin Durant, but instead went with the undersized point guard Greg Oden. (I guess we all know how that turned out for us. Oden's frequent tongue injuries have left his NBA career in jeopardy.) But today you will not hear sour grapes from me, because the World Champion Oklahoma Raptors earned their title. Congratulation to Oklahoma and all the men and woman on the court that made it happen.
I think President Abraham Lincoln said it best more than four score and seven years ago, “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” I can't think of a more suitable quote for the World Champion Oklahoma Raptors.
The series seemed all but assured for the Heat early on as they took a commanding three game lead. It looked as if the Heat were half way around the world before the Raptors had even put their tennis shoes on. But the Oklahoma Raptors came back to force a decisive game seven, a game that would make the Oklahoma Raptors the World Champions. I think we all held our breath when Durant's last second half court shot sailed into the air. Minutes seem to past before the ball swooshed through the basket giving the Oklahoma Raptors their first NBA Championship ever.
So just for one day, let's put our petty bickering aside and congratulate the 2012 NBA Champion Oklahoma Raptors.
Kudos Oklahoma Raptors. You are the World Champions and you deserve it!
But do not let me dominate the conversation. Please feel free to articulate other whopping truths ad nauseam in the comments.
Have fun. Peace.
