Interesting locations given SCOTUS could drop their findings in the Az Immigration Bill and/or the ACA constitutionality.

Now Romney might have planned to be in Az for awhile and it's just dumb luck but Pres Obama in Mass. seems to have been arranged rather quickly as Elizabeth Warren announced an hour or so ago that Pres Obama is heading to Massachusetts and she's been asked to introduce him (http://www.facebook.com/...).

Can anything be read into these travel arrangements?

The SCOTUS findings have been leakproof it seems - everybody pretends to know, but that's all from reading tea leaves - but if anybody would know what was coming it would be Pres Obama and it would be Mitt Romney.  Romney is having trouble with the immigration issue ever since Pres Obama passed the no-deportation on DREAMers measure.  If he is in Az as the SCOTUS decision drops there is no way he could get around not commenting on it - so he has to be there for this reason.  No matter what SCOTUS decides he can use Az to base his attacks - either SCOTUS ruling that Az is within their rights (and push his States rights agenda) or SCOTUS rules against SB1070 and he chastises Pres Obama for dropping the ball on immigration reform and leaving Az to have to try and do it's best.

On the other side of America, Pres Obama will be in Massachusetts - I can't think of many better places to be when the SCOTUS ACA findings are released.  Now I hoped for a Oval Office prime time address if ACA was stricken in any way or in totality, but giving remarks in Massachusetts, a state with a mandate that is working - put in place by Mitt Romney, might make campaign sense to try and spin the ruling politically.   Also it it's wholly upheld, Massachusetts would be a great place to celebrate the fact - reminding Republicans about Obamacare roots come from Romneycare just as they're all pitching fits on cable and network news across America about how they have to defeat it via Congress now.

If only one is coming down - would Romney choose to be in Az to gloat over ACA being stricken?  Could he be in Az in a desperate attempt to stay in an immigration message should ACA be upheld completely? I have to imagine once the ACA findings are released all other news will be buried in coverage - even the immigration findings.  But being in Az, the immigration findings will be co-headlining allowing Romney to control his coverage.

Are both locations serendipity or do they have a heads up on SCOTUS announcements? Can anything be read into their choice of location should the respective rulings come down? Or could locations be used no matter which way the decisions go.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Each Justice has 4 clerks per wikipedia.  That means that at least 45 people have known the outlines of the decision for several months.   Some have good friends, lovers, family...who would love to get just a hint, and you would think one of them would pry this loose.

They may not be able to reach rational decisions, but they sure can keep a secret.

OBL raid was known by many for months and months as well and nary a peep.

You wouldn't know who you could trust with leaks - definitely wouldn't leak to friends or especially lovers (could go bad) and any political op you could never really trust they might tell the wrong people.  I would suspect the justices themselves would leak before their clerks.

And even if somebody did leak to a source, that source wouldn't have any credibility of breaking SCOTUS news in the past and everybody claims to know something so any real leaks would have been lost in the chatter of others reading the tea leaves.  Nobody is going to come out and say "I have a source who has said SCOTUS will rule x, y, z" because it wouldn't be hard to trace back to find the leaker and they'd have a relationship with the source, nobody who knows the finding is going to cold call Anderson Cooper and hope he protects his source.

All that being said, I suspect that Pres Obama knows, and that leadership in Congress likely knows, and Romney probably knows at this stage.  If not outright told, they'd be given enough to "read between the lines" with - to give both sides absolute deniability of somehow confronted with the idea that they were told/tipped off.

[definitely wouldn't leak to friends or especially lovers (could go bad) and any political op you could never really trust they might tell the wrong people.]

I shared digs with George Keyworth's daughter back in '82, '83. At the time George was Reagan's science advisor. He thought Reagan was a comlete idiot. He'd get drunk and call my friend and complain about a plan to shoot down missiles from space. A physicist, George new the plan had no chance of success for decades, if ever, and was nothing but a huge waste of taxpayers money.  At the time most of the information was classified.

Of coarse I'd hear all about it as soon as the call ended. There was absolutely nothing I could do with the information. Nobody would have believed me even if I wanted to talk, which I didn't.

George left the administration in disgust at the end of the first term. He  became a member of the board of directors for HP in '86. In '05 an internal investigation named him as the source of the leaks about Carly Fiorina
problems with the board. He resigned as a result.

The point is that George had been leaking like a sieve for 25 years. Classified information to family and friends was never a problem. Telling the press that Carly was a bitch cost him his job.

Successful leaks require a credible source and a credible messenger.

    overturned:
    1) Obama and a senate majority 0f 55-53 are in place Nov., 2012.
    2) Ginsburg retires
    3) filibuster is eliminated or effectively reduced
    4) Obama appoints lawyer Cecile Richards (Planned Parenthood) to her place. :)

comment on SB1070, given the awkwardness he has shown in talking about Obama's DREAM act. I guess you could argue SB1070 is more popular in polling than opposition to the DREAM act, but still.

And I agree about ACA and MA. I dont think WH knows ahead of time about healthcare, but MA seems like a perfect place to be, if the SCOTUS upheld the law. Because if ACA is upheld, Romney/GOP will shift to make repeal an issue on the November ballot, and MA is a great place to remind people of the origins of the mandate.
