Hey! Good Evening!
Tonight's music features two piano players, Floyd Dixon, probably best known for his composition "Hey Bartender," and Jay McShann a Kansas City blues and jazz legend. Enjoy!

"If US per capita income continues to grow at a rate of 1.5 percent a year, the country will have plenty of money to finance comfortable retirements and high-quality healthcare for all citizens, including those at the bottom of the wage ladder."

Assange stays at embassy despite police order to turn himself in
Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks website, remains at the Ecuadorean embassy in London after failing to present himself at a police station to begin the process of extradition to Sweden over allegations of rape and indecency.
Assange, who said he would remain at the embassy because he feared the US had secret plans to extradite him to Washington, remains in breach of his bail conditions, and by failing to report to a police station he is now liable for arrest. He had been ordered to present himself at Belgravia police station at 11.30am on Friday. A spokesman for the Metropolitan police confirmed that he had not appeared.
In a telephone interview on BBC2′s Newsnight, Assange said he had been advised that he was within his rights to ignore an extradition notice presented to him at the Ecuadorean embassy on Thursday.
'Heat... Fire... Disaster': What Climate Change Looks Like
“What we’re seeing is a window into what global warming really looks like,” said Princeton University climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer, referring to raging wildfires in the US west, in a press briefing on Thursday. "It looks like heat, it looks like fires, it looks like this kind of environmental disaster... This provides vivid images of what we can expect to see more of in the future."
Oppenheimer, speaking alongside other scientists, argued that shorters winters with less snow, coupled with earlier Springs, and extreme summer heat -- all contributors for the fires burning in Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico -- were also conditions that he and his colleagues at the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted would result from carbon-induced climate change.
According to “Heat Waves and Climate Change,” a new report from Climate Communication, a nonprofit science outreach group which, along with Climate Nexus, coordinated the conference call with Oppenheimer and others, the "remarkable run of record-shattering heat waves in recent years, from the Russian heat wave of 2010 that set forests ablaze to the historic heat wave in Texas in 2011 and the “Summer in March” in the U.S. Midwest in 2012" all typify the ongoing trend driven by climate change.
US Coast Guard Creates 'Protest-Free Zone' in Alaska Oil Drilling Zone
The United States Coast Guard will establish and enforce "a 500-meter safety zone" around the ShellOil Company's drilling vessel Noble Discoverer as it drills exploratory offshore wells in the sensitive Arctic waters off the coast of Alaska beginning this July.
In documents just obtained by Cryptome, the USCG says that "request for the temporary safety zone was made by Shell Exploration & Production Company due to safety concerns for both the personnel aboard the Noble Discoverer and the environment."
The 'buffer zone' would apply to all vessels, but the 'special rules' are clearly designed to make it more difficult for those trying to protest against the Shell's oil drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas this summer. "For any group or individual intending to conduct lawful demonstrations in the vicinity of the Noble Discoverer," reads the USCG memo, "These demonstrations must be conducted outside the safety zone."
Hundreds evacuated as deadly storms flood Britain
Britain was bracing for more disruption on Friday after storms and flash floods in which one man died and hundreds of homes were evacuated.
A landslide near the England-Scotland border overnight brought train services to a halt as torrential rains hit large swathes of Britain in the latest bout of unseasonable weather in the country. ...
Parts of central England were pelted with around 22 mm (just under one inch) of rain in one hour Thursday — a third of the average rainfall for the whole month of June — while 15,000 homes in the area were left without power overnight.
