Tom Carper is a Democrat. He is one of Delaware's two Senators. That would make him a good person, right? After all Delaware is an extreme liberal state if you listen to most conservatives, and they do consistently elect a Democratic majority. Let us see what Daily Kos has to say about him.

Senate Democrats + House Blue Dogs to dismantle Obama jobs plan on behalf of Republican colleagues Tom Carper (D-Credit Card Industry) opposes any kind of stimulus or jobs creation. He wants nothing but deficit reduction. In other words, he thinks destroying jobs will create jobs.
The PVI/Vote Index: Quantifying good Democrats, bad Democrats and ugly Republicans Let's use the example of Carper, who's the most underperforming Democrat according to DW/Nominate scores.
New debit card 'swipe' fee rules threatened Those lawmakers who are rethinking this aspect of financial reform include Democratic Senators Jon Tester of Montana and Tom Carper of Delaware, and Senator Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican, according to Bloomberg. According to Bloomberg's anonymous sources, they are working on legislation that would delay the implementation of the new swipe-fee rules.
Wall Street reform gets better, but isn't done yet Delaware's Tom Carper is introducing amendment 3949, that would strips existing regulations that allow states to enforce stronger financial regulations than those passed by the federal government. It would actually weaken existing regulations, making its potential passage worse than the status quo.
White House fighting Carper amendment Diana Farrell, deputy director of the National Economic Council, said the administration opposes amendments – including one backed by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) – that would restrict state attorneys general. This amendment would basically pre-empt any state consumer protection regulations.

sawolf's US Senate Race Ratings Delaware Tom Carper (D) I always forget Carper is up for reelection this year and I really wish he weren't as Democrats could easily get someone more liberal into this seat. Anyway, Carper is beyond safe as the Obama/Biden ticket will easily carry Delaware and Carper remains popular.
Progress in Delaware: Civil Unions made law by Dem Gov At last night's signing ceremony, video messages of support were played by U.S. Senator Chris Coons, U.S. Rep. John Carney, and Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker. (Anyone else note the absence of Tom Carper? I sure do.)
Views on Gay Marriage in the Democratic Caucus: A Brief Primer Opponents: Tom Carper, DE Warner and Carper are the two who surprise me here. Carper's state already recognizes civil unions, and he's not socially conservative on anything else; he's more DLC than Blue Dog. Warner is the same way

Just this past Sunday the state of Delaware was indicted as the number one corporate tax haven by the New York Times. Obviously if befit with such clientèle a pragmatic Senator has to cater. However this puts him at odds with his constituency, especially in a state that currently boasts a Democratic Governor, a Democratic Lt. Gov, a Democratic Insurance Commissioner, a Democratic Attorney General, a Democratic State Treasurer, has a Democratic majority in the House 26-15 , as well as a Democratic majority in its Senate 14-7 .
And not one progressive Democrat is willing to challenge?
Well, there is one, but he needs your help to get onto the ballot. This progressive has been a part of the state's party apparatus for years working behind the scenes. He is on a first name basis with most labor locals, constituent service workers, and members of the progressive party. He has been a heavy hitter behind the scenes for which he will not take credit, preferring those in the public eye, take the mantle instead.
He probably has no chance to win, but then again the same was said with Joe Biden, and Paul Wellstone. You just never know. But we will probably never get the chance to know, for it looks like he will never get the chance to fight. Delaware has the highest filing fee in the nation. $10,440.. To put that in context the next highest state's filing fee is California, at $3480. California has a population over 36 million. Delaware has yet to reach a million people. (Furthermore, most other states are far below, often substituting a bevy of signatures for some of the fee. )
The high fee was just recently put in place to protect the incumbent, in this case, the above mentioned Tom Carper. (Most likely the forever lasting impact of one Christine O'Donnell.)
However, if that obstacle can be overcome, the potential for a Wellstone-type fight is present. The money disadvantage will be overwhelming, (as one can guess from the above-mentioned Sunday's New York Times story), but this candidate has the advantage on the ground, if, he can just get his name on the ballot.
Please check him out all the while remembering, that each time we let a fight against corporate corruption go unchallenged, we face a much stronger foe, the next time we choose to draw the line.
His site: mcmurraysenate.com Please send him $4 dollars or more if you could. This could be what tips the balance across the whole nation. He explains that better than I could.
