StopCartel TV broadcasts LIVE from Athens, Greece on weeknights @ 10pm Athens time. The following post is a loose transcript of the July 6, 2012 broadcast.
- In his speech in front of Parliament on Friday, Antonis Samaras, the Prime Minister of Greece, officially announced that his coalition government will begin the extensive and immediate privatization of Greece’s assets. On the chopping block are the public utility companies, buildings, railways, roads, ports, the airport and more. Everything is FOR SALE.
In addition, Samaras stated that he will continue to shrink the public sector, worsening an already devastating unemployment crisis. He also supports further cuts in wages across-the-board, a policy that callously ignores the current humanitarian crisis in his country. In Samaras’s Greece, everything is FOR SALE, including the lives of the citizens.
Samaras decorated his Neoliberal policy speech with general promises, including the ridiculous notion that somehow, by selling Greece for pennies on the euro to multinational companies and increasing unemployment, things will improve for the average Greek citizen.
Ironically, Samaras complained that the Troika has threatened to throw Greece out of the euro and back to the drachma, despite his traitorous willingness to immediately follow through with the sovereignty-killing, Neoliberal policies.
This indicates that the loan sharks are not satisfied with paying pennies on the euro for profitable public assets. No, they much prefer to devalue the currency by putting Greece back on the drachma before they further ravage the economy and sovereignty of Greece.

- The Troika’s representatives of clerks, the IMF, ECB and EC, met in Athens on Friday. According to reports, they are ‘very upset’ because not enough progress has been made to fulfill the terms of the Faustian pact.

- Everyday life for an average Greek may include seeing people of all ages forage through the garbage for food, bracing for news of the tragic daily suicides, selling off personal property, including family heirlooms, to pay for bills and food, and rising to action when neighbors are arrested for ‘stealing’ utilities. The Greek people shoulder all of this and more, while trying to maintain their deep sense of dignity.
The Peoples’ movement in Greece is very strong because the will and desire for liberation is heartfelt. This fuels and inspires the movement.

- From London, Cameron claims he will fence the UK off from the Greek immigrant wave threat. Several EU countries are considering closing their borders to Greeks, as Cameron stated, because of the ‘extraordinary stresses and strains caused by Europe’s economic crisis’.
Is this legal? Journalist, George Eaton, says no. This kind of action goes against the fundamental principles of the EU Treaty. Countries who limit the immigration of specific EU citizens are abandoning the principles of Article 18 of the Treaty, which bans member states from discriminating according to nationality.

- Unfortunately, technical difficulties prevented StopCartel from broadcasting live from the anti-racist festival in Athens, this weekend. The crew at StopCartel opposes racism in any form and has a history of fighting for equality from South Africa to Athens.

- StopCartel reports that when traveling outside Athens, the average Greek person over 40 does not use the internet. This portion of the population depends on the corporate-owned media for their news, so they are very ill-informed. Too many people have been brainwashed by the propaganda that echoed throughout the mainstream media in Greece, Europe and America.
Information is the backbone of the effort to liberate ourselves, not just in Greece or Europe, but the whole world. Independent media is an extremely important conduit of unfiltered information. We must build and support a network of information in order to succeed.
