Welcome !!! The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Willard will likely outraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we can remain competitive financially and (2) we volunteer more (GOTV, canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...) .
I am excited to join this group to raise awareness of what DK posters can do to help get President Obama re-elected. Below is a round-up of today's news about the Obama re-elect/Obama administration and ways we can pitch in and help.
Obama Administration/Re-Election News:
One of the reasons that I am such an Obamabot is that the Obama Administration is always searching for new solutions to the world's problems. This article talks about the shifts in Foreign Food Aid under the Obama Administration:
Instead of shipping food after the fact, the United States aid agency, U.S.A.I.D., has been working with local farmers to promote new crops and methods so that farmers don’t have to worry about starving in the first place.
President Obama has made agriculture a focus of his foreign aid programs with mixed results. On the plus side, these initiatives are smart, cost-effective and potentially transformative. On the negative side, they’re boring. At a time when there’s a vigorous political debate in America about foreign aid, outreach to African farmers doesn’t wow Congress or the American people.
Head's Up:
Highlights of the interview will air tomorrow across all CBS News programming, with the full interview airing Sunday on “CBS Sunday Morning” and Monday on “CBS This Morning.”
Apparently yesterday the Romney camp was having the vapors over Obama's comments about Chavez not being a threat to the U.S.
The Obama campaign's response to the hysterics was pitch-perfect:
"Because of President Obama's leadership, our position in the Americas is much stronger today than before he took office. At the same time, Hugo Chavez has become increasingly marginalized and his influence has waned. It's baffling that Mitt Romney is so scared of a leader like Chavez whose power is fading, while Romney continues to remain silent about how to confront al-Qaeda or how to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. People like Hugo Chavez want attention -- and that's exactly what Mitt Romney and his supporters gave him today. Governor Romney is only playing into the hands of Chavez by acting like he's ten feet tall."
This is a kick-butt web ad on Romney's foreign banking ties:
How to Help:
Donate to Obama's Re-Election Campaign:
Click to Obama's Re-Elect Campaign
You can also contribute by purchasing bumper stickers, etc. from the Obama For America (OFA) Store.
Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Information:
You can volunteer at Obama For America to help register voters and participate in GOTV events. You can also check with your local Democratic office to find volunteer opportunities.
OFA has set-up 2 great voting sites, http://www.gottavote.org and https://www.gottaregister.com. The first site provides info on what you need to register to vote; what to bring when you vote; etc. On the second site you can enter your information and have OFA send you a voter registration form for your state.
Thanks to TomP for putting together this group and to everyone who is contributing through diaries or commenting. This is the time for all of us to pull together and focus on re-electing Obama and moving our country forward.
