I wrote two letters to the editor today. I have no idea if they'll be printed (probably not - they were to the Wisconsin State Journal) but if we don't write in and correct errors, who will?
The first was in response to several letters they printed today that had incorrect information about the ACA. One asked if someone with no income would go to jail for not paying the no-insurance penalty; I pointed out that there is no criminal penalty associated with not having insurance, and someone with no income wouldn't be subject to the mandate anyway. Another wrote that the ACA will bankrupt the country; I pointed out that it's actually reducing the deficit.
The second was about a front page story this week, where they wrote that Obama wants to end the Bush tax cuts for households making over $250,000. I pointed out that this isn't true - he wants to end the cuts on income over $250k. Many people don't understand the concept of marginal rates.
I think the important thing in writing in is to make sure you have your facts straight, but put it in your own words; nobody's interested in seeing a bunch of copies of the same letter copied off the internet.
Has anyone here had a letter published recently? What did you write?
