Since I moved back to Boise, something odd keeps happening. Animals, domesticated and not, keep showing up in the acreage at my parents' (mcmom and Old Timer) house. First it was the little doe that dropped her fawn by the compost pile. Oh, so that's why that doe kept charging at the dog through the fence. That one was easy; just left it alone, and mama came back when things were quieter.
Then it was the funny little banty hen, which I hope came from the neighbors in back, because that's where I returned her. After a 40 minute chase and a great deal of cajoling with birdseed. There were the two stray dogs, one of which I got into the yard and who was extremely grateful for the capture, and the second who was just too skittish to get within 20 yards of.
Then there was the poor little kitty, trying to eat out of the compost pile four days after Christmas. When I went out to see if I could get up to him, he ran to me and practically jumped into my arms. As I carried him to the house, I saw his little paw prints in the snow leading up to the front door. Once I saw that, I was a goner. That was Watson who quickly became a keeper. Best cat ever.
So now there's this kitty, a beautiful little girl, maybe 6 or 8 months, jet black with green eyes and a gorgeous panther face. We first noticed her hanging out a few months ago, and while she was very talkative and friendly, she seemed to be well-cared for and we thought she was just a visitor. But then we saw her more and more, and she seemed to be getting thinner and thinner. We assume that neighbors who sold their house a few months ago just didn't take her with them when they moved.
Now she's moved in permanently to live behind mcmom's garage. She's very friendly, has a great purr, and gives fantastic rubs. She loves having company, loves being pet and handled (as long as you don't pick her up). We're feeding her, providing water and shelter, and today I wormed her.
Look at those eyes, pleading for a new home.
But I can't really add another animal to my mix at home, and mcmom has too many responsibilities at the moment to add another. So this sweet little kitty so needs and wants a home. The county shelter is filled to the gills and can't guarantee no kill. One of my concerns with a shelter or rescue is the problem they always have adopting out black animals.
So, who in the vicinity of Boise needs a new friend?
