Since it appears that the only way to add an image to the library is through I diary, and since the only way I can think of to learn how to use this new feature is by testing it, I submit, for your viewing pleasure, a couple of photos. These aren't my best pictures ever; those usually end up on Flickr and most certainly not on my work computer.

A test photo of Darwin
Darwin says: "Where's the food?"
A test picture of two dogs, for use in diaries or comments, as appropriate.
Just two guys I saw on the street recently.

Photo number one was taken at home, a few years ago. His majesty, Darwin.

The second one I took recently with my phone; I emailed it to myself at work for the express purpose of using it in this exercise.

So...when you try to tag something as "pootie" or "woozle" you receive a warning. Should I be worried? Or is it just snark?

I suppose I'll get the hang of this at some point.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

how it is possible. Kind of makes no sense, but as a software development guy, I bet it will happen sometime. No reason you just don't have access, since you are logged in and the site knows who you are, that you can't access your photos. But some of this stuff is more complex than you might think.

Well not really but this site is built on software that honest I am 110% sure if Markos and his team had it to do all over again, they'd NEVER use.

Smart fella (gal?) in another diary clued me into that. Use the "link" function at the bottom of the comment, copy the link for your graphic (I've been capturing it from the "properties"), and click the image box to indicate that is what you will be adding. Cool tool

the image being one somewhere in the image library...hover your mouse over it, right click, from the box that appears (in Firefox browser for now)& click 'Copy Image Location'

        then

1.write your comment...and when you get to where you want the picture: go to the bottom of the comment box and click 'Link'

        2.  right click in the box where it says 'Url:' click 'paste' into that box and the location gibberish for the picture will appear there...it's long and complicated looking. No worries.

        3. click the box just below that says 'Image'

        4. click the box that says 'Add'

        5. finish writing your comment

        6. click 'Preview'

        7. does your picture appear?

if yes, yer doing it right

if not, blame me, and read again and see if you did it like I said...if still no, read someone else's instruction and good luck, probably my fault sry :>

        so here goes:

so I had to go back and make sure the mouse pointer was on the next line to the words 'so here goes'
and now Sparky is looking good...but tiny...cause it's the thumbnail.

Elfling described where you could change the word thumbnail for three other sizes and get a larger picture, find that diary from yesterday, heh, but all I remember was the goofy word 'lightbox'...yep, so let's try that: (I put the pointer here below line:and do the link/ImageAdd thing and:

and there's Sparky at the same size..
        ...
....well of course cause I forgot to change the out the 'thumb' word....geez.

... ok, now I'll do the same thing but I will find the 'thumb' word in the link info I pasted ('thumb' is for thumbnail which it what we got there)

and change it to the word 'lightbox', like here goes:

and now Sparky is a big happy dog at 800 x 900 pixels. Quality, I don't know what the original is, Sparky looks like a winner tho!...and what's in a name?

There are three other sizes to chose from, I ferget, maybe someone will say...
maybe big, medium, and just right..I ferget :>

        good luck

At least not one I'm offered. I get the link from "properties", which is offered.

On size, it appears the default is "large". I too would be interested in the other choices. I don't think "medium" is one, since I tried that (typing it into the html in place of "large")  and my image failed.

don't haz da other bowsers working at present

last night's diary was all over this, but which of the ten was it??

maybe search for user Elfling and look thru her last night's comments.

            Enough about me, gotta go.

no really, I'll look later, maybe you can find it, I remember medium as well and it didn't work for me either.

so: properties or copy link location are two choices we know works.

            good oh!

oh, and somebody should find and post the instructions that Kaili wrote on how to use this.

            later...

    •  Your profile box is glued... (4+ / 0-)

...to the top right corner of any page you visit on dKos. When reading a diary/post and you decide you want to comment and include an image from the public/personal library:

      1) Open 'Image Library'
      2) Click the desired image to select
      3) Right click over the large (vs. thumbnail version) image and choose Copy Image URL to copy the link to your clipboard
      4) Start your comment and paste link into the comment
      5) Next you'll need to do a bit of typing and wrap the link in the IMG tag. Note the begin (<) and end (>) tags should have no spaces.

      < IMG SRC="h t t p://s3.amazonaws.com/dk-production/images/1386/large/profilebox.PNG?1342641657" >

      7) Finish your comment and preview

There could be an easier method than this, I thought I read you could drag and drop but I couldn't figure out how to drag from the pop-up image library window into my comment without being able to scroll.

first the bottom scroll arrow appeared

        I sit up ('huh?)

        then the bar shrinks

        I can scroll!
        I can scroll!

then some more...and more...t all goes away if I do much with it, and I have to be looking at the page for it to load, no progress if it isn't the top page.

so Verizon frackin with me something you all did?

        soo, yay, way better!

no what are those pictures sizes tio substitute for 'thumb' again, one being 'lightbox'?
