So, who remembers this exchange between a nutbag and Sen. McCain during the 2008 race?
.
.
Nutbag: "I can't trust Obama...I have read about him, and he's not, he's a...he's an Arab."
McCain: "No, Ma'am. He's a decent, family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that's what this campaign is all about."
Now, as awful as I feel John McCain usually is, and as terrible of a candidate as he was, I have to give him props for being a merely decent human being during this exchange.
I realize that he seems to agree with the nutbag that being "an Arab" is somehow inconsistent with being "a decent family man and citizen", but that aside, he did smack down her hateful, inane blather by defending Obama's character and trying to stick to the issues.
Contrast that with this exchange:
Obama Called 'This Monster' At Mitt Romney Town Hall
At a friendly town hall event Wednesday in Bowling Green, Ohio, Mitt Romney faced a questioner who referred to President Barack Obama as "this monster," which he quickly corrected.
"That's not a term I would use," the former Massachusetts governor said lightly.
"I can use it. I'm an angry mom," she shot back.
The exchange was reminiscent of a May town hall, also in Ohio, where Romney stood by as a questioner asserted that Obama should be tried for treason. Romney did not correct her and answered her question about the U.S. Constitution. Only after the event did Romney say he "of course" did not agree with her.
"That's not a term I would use."???
Wow.
Gee, Mitt, I guess I had you pegged all wrong. You really are a stand-up guy. Salt of the earth.
Asshole.
