to be safe and comfortable.
So do wonderful DKos folks like chimene, and others.
from chimene:
maybe dailyKos community could consider making a check-up list of OUR isolates? of course folks would have to volunteer themselves for both sides of such a roster (as isolates, AND as possible heatwave-buds), and locate themselves so match-ups could be figured out??? if things get bad enough, digital may not work (computers die in heat, blackouts, etc), so meat-world contacts may also be an idea...
What do all y'all think of starting a group where we could all check in with one another regularly, and not just in the heat, but in extreme cold, or in other weather disaster or economic depression situations like the blackouts chimene mentioned, too.
Last summer, my computer melted in the extreme heat we got, so I understand the need for alternate means of contact. Maybe we could, through such a group, team people up with others in the same city, greater metropolitan area or mileage area - or really close, anyway.
It would be like mini-meet-ups of DKos folk, micro-cellls of people looking out for one another.
We could have T-shirts, and buttons, and wear orange ribbons, and - oh, wait. Got a little too enthusiastic there.
We wouldn't place contact info in it - that would be done privately by people who determine they live close enough to look in on one another. No one else would know. The folks who love in the geographic area could meet at a coffee shop, mall, restaurant, truck stop or other public place and exchange contact information in person. The meet-ups could be on the group because the people would be meeting in public places.
I suggest wearing orange to such a meet-up so as to be recognizable.
Is there enough interest to form such a group?
EDITED TO ADD: So, if we do it, what do y'all think of calling it the Itzl Alert Network?
EDITED TO ADD: Here's a link to the Itzl Alert Network. Please feel free to join if you'd like to buddy up to check in on one another during heat waves, wild fires, power outages, and such.
