If you saw the clips of the hypocrisy of Romney's stump speech while he was out campaigning yesterday as reported here at DailyKos and Talking Points Memo, you're going to appreciate the speed with which President Obama's Truth Team came out with this ad today:
Obama is fighting back against the Republican game plan of twisting his words. Every time I see this happening, I'm reminded of a line from the poem IF by Rudyard Kipling:
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Thankfully, President Obama is not just sitting by and bearing it. He's hitting back fast, and he's hitting back hard!
Transcript:
On Screen: Mitt Romney is launching a false attack.
Romney speaking: President Obama exposed what he really thinks of free people and the American vision. He said this: "If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."
On Screen: The only problem? That's not what he said.
President Obama Speaking: If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.
On Screen: It turns out, Romney agrees.
Romney speaking: We value school teachers, firefighters, people who build roads.
President Obama Speaking: Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.
Romney speaking: So you really couldn't have a business if you didn't have those things.
President Obama Speaking: The point is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.
On Screen: Mitt Romney will say anything.
Is that the same Mitt Romney who said this? (H/T
Jacoby Jonze)
He wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more firemen, more policemen, and more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.
The one place that President Obama has a huge advantage over Romney is in social media (Study finds Obama 'blows Romney out of the water' on Facebook and New Data Show Obama Ahead in Social-Media Race). We're battling tons of cash from the Right, but there's nothing as powerful as word of mouth communication. If you can't afford to donate dollars, you can afford to donate a little time helping to spread the message.
