It occurs to me that if 80% of the populace believes that the wealthy class should pay more taxes, but only 50% of the voters favor voting for Obama, then the 30% difference are voting for other priorities - anti-welfare, anti-planned parenthood, anti-NPR, anti-regulation, etc.
So why do the Dems not directly counter the anti- issues???? instead of ignoring them. Maybe they would convince one-half of them that their thinking is incorrect. So the election would end up at 65% Democrats, and 35% Republican. Simple!!
That is the challenge - don't ignore the anti-'s!!!! Address those issues directly!!!
PS - It just dawned on me why right wing Christians are so against public welfare - they want to dispense welfare from their churches, to bring in vulnerable people to convert. The fact that their efforts would not begin to solve the problem is incidental.
