Given his accomplishments and the opposition, it seems as though President Obama should be up an average of 15-20 points in these national pre-election polls. But for some crazy, unimaginable reason, such is not the case.
Poll after poll shows that that the President is running neck and neck with presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney? Mitt Romney?
I just do not see how it's possible that any candidate representing the GOP has even the slightest chance of taking the White House in November...especially Mitt Romney. I mean Republicans have shown time and again that they don't like the guy. And on top of that, he's shown that he's a terrible, awful campaigner who just doesn't relate well to the average American.
This is a dude who has some of the most distasteful, ignorant flubs in the history of American poliitics. For example he's on the record saying trifling, bass ackwards, out of touch stuff such as:
"Corporations are people, my friend."
"I'm also unemployed."
"Rick, I'll tell you what, $10,000 bucks...$10,000 bet?"
"I'm not concerned about the very poor."
How can anyone who is a multi-millionaire several times over say such over-the-top callous, shallow and ignorant stuff like that when millions of Americans are hurting and unemployed still be a viable presidential candidate? It's so absurd it's obscene.
Yeah, I get it that our economy is still sluggist and unemployment is still unacceptably high, but good grief the obstructionist Republicans in the House and Senate are more responsible for our economic woes than the President is. It's because of them that federal government efforts to spark the economy are stuck in neutral.
They've virtually given President Obama nothing he's asked for in the hopes of making him fail in the hopes of fulfilling their number one objective of making President Obama a one-termer, as Sen. Mitch McConnell so brazenly declared.
They rail about President Obama's failed policies, but what have they accomplished? What plans have they unveiled? What vision have they shared? What compromises have they made? Zero across the board...yet Americans are ready to put another one of them into the White House and throw out President Obama? Okay, yeah the President has made some missteps, but overall he's done a great job. I simply do not understand how America can be so divided on his presidency -- especially given the alternative.
About the only things Republicans have been concerned with over the past three years are passing laws telling women what they can do with their bodies, passing voter suppression and anti-union initiatives, dehumanizing gays, immigrants and Muslims, downplaying the President's many accomplishments (such as taking down Bin Laden, making quality healthcare available to all, saving US auto industry, ending our combat ops in Iraq and striking down the military's don't ask/don't tell policy) and blocking any economic initiatives they think might help the economy and in turn the President's re-election chances.
If the GOP wins the White House, it suggests that America is morally bankrupt and ethically challenged. I know that's a strong statement, but that's my belief.
I sure hope these polls are wrong. Otherwise, just like Bush and Cheney did, Romney and his gang of thieves will seize power again and rob the country blind for another four years where the rich will get richer and start another unnecessary war so more of our scarce resources will be channeled to the military industrial complex.
What a drag. It makes no sense. I just can't figure it out.
