There is some hope possibly on the horizon coming from a Democrat named Rich Cowan, here in Spokane, who is running against who has been described as the 4th most powerful Republican in Congress, Cathy McMorris Rogers. She is the lone woman who stands behind Boner and Cantor evertime they make a public comment. She usually has a smirk on her face.
There is quite a bit of buzz being generated by Cowans' campaign so far. A big reason is because he may have the resources to really push Cathy for once. Rich Cowan developed and was the CEO of a film company based in Spokane called North by Northwest who have put out about 47 full length movies as of now and are filming another here as I speak.
The last Dem. who held the 5th Congressional seat was Thomas Foley, who was taken down in 1994 as many of you will recall. Since that time the 5th District has been Repug. unfortunately.
From what I have heard and been reading in the local media, Mr. Cowan is getting out into the 5th district well, unlike McMorris-Rogers who pretty much blew it, by not showing up for a get togther of the Clarkston, Wa. League of Women Voters recently.
I have just started to see her first campaign videos, which are a joke. She claims to be concerned about the economy and jobs in Eastern Washington, oh really Cathy? Is that why you have done SQUAT to improve the jobs situation here, and taken the hard rights stand which is against anything President Obama is for ? She says she wants to keep families from fleeing E. Washington as well.
I have checked Cowans stands on the issues and he is pretty much in line with President Obama from Obamacare to gay marriage even. Fairly bold for a purplish city in a red zone. I have also heard that McMorris-Rogers seems to consider Mr. Cowan as a reputable challenger.
I find myself eagerly looking forward to the debates. Hope Rogers will agree to at least 3. For those of you not familiar with my neck of the woods, Spokane is the "large" metro area in a region that is both urban, and rural, with lots of farming in the area. Our economy is hurting big time. I recently saw where Washingtons cities were judged in what condition they were at with the recession, and Spokane was not faring well, certainly not like the west side and Seattle.
This is a race I am going to follow and followup on because this could get really interesting. My hope is that if Mr. Cowan is not able to knock off McMorris-Rogers, he is able to make her seriously squirm. I will keep you posted. Until then, go Rich Go!!!!!!
