The contrast couldn't be more clear in terms of who's really got Israel's back. While Mitt Romney urges a return to Bush-league diplomacy and 'Freeing the Dumb,' Obama is offering more than just plans for the impotent coddling of anti-democracy dictators.
One day before Romney's visit to Israel, Obama signed legislation increasing military and civilian ties between the U.S. and Israel. And he authorized the release of an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel...
The new money is aimed at helping Israel expand production of a short-range rocket defense system, called Iron Drone, that can block fire from nearby Gaza and other places.
Meanwhile, what does Romney offer Israel? Just words, and plans for more words. Evidently his foreign policy plan is to merely talk with anti-democratic dictators (using the incredible diplomatic skills exhibited in London I guess) and hope for peaceful resolutions to the problems threatening Israel, like he says Bush did (?!??!!!).
Romney: The Arab Spring is not appropriately named. It has become a development of more concern and it occurred in part because of the reluctance on the part of various dictators to provide more freedom to their citizens. President Bush urged Hosni Mubarak to move toward a more democratic posture, but President Obama abandoned [Bush's] freedom agenda and we are seeing today a whirlwind of tumult in the Middle East in part because these nations did not embrace the reforms that could have changed the course of their history, in a more peaceful manner.
