In response to a question about Willard Romney's affinity for northern New Hampshire, it occurred to me that, perhaps, our esteemed Senator Bob Odell, founder of campaign consultants Odell, Simms & Lynch, Inc. had enticed him here. Not so. I was wrong. Romney's New Hampshire political guru sits in Dublin, New Hampshire, a bit farther south. Stephen C. Meyers, the founder of SCM Associates, who assures us that he
has handled several of the most successful major direct mail programs for candidates, including Rick Lazio (New York Senate campaign against Hillary Clinton), Congresswoman Katherine Harris, and Congressman Bob Barr.
and claims to have handled Romney's direct mail in 2008 is definitely in Romney's employ and pulling lots of money into New Hampshire this time around. According to the
Federal Election Commission detailed disbursement reports, SCM has collected over $7 million in the month of June, alone.
That's out of a total of about $27 million the Romney campaign committee spent in June of 2012. Certainly, SCM far outstrips the $3400 that went to the Tilton School, the $2000 paid to the Sweet Dreams Bakery and the $2000 collected by Impress Me Designs, the three other New Hampshire beneficiaries of Romney patronage this month.
Perhaps to hedge his bets, Willard also contracted for consulting services for a half million with Target Point Consulting, Inc. in Virginia -- i.e. one of those Beltway firms SCM seeks to distinguish itself from. An additional eight hundred thousand went to SJC, LLC and an outfit in Minnesota, FLS Connect, LLC hauled in $1.25 million for its data services.
As is to be expected, the Romney campaign farmed out its personnel functions to an outfit in Kingwood, Texas, INSPERITY, which was paid about $338,000 for payroll services and taxes.
Leaving the best for last, American Rambler Productions, LLC in Beverly, MA was paid about $11.3 to place media for the campaign. In other words, the Romney campaign is providing a considerable subsidy to our electronic media.
