CNN Plays Pink's 'Stupid Girls' For Sarah Palin Chick-Fil-A Segment
CNN's musical choice for a segment about Sarah Palin on Sunday is raising some eyebrows.
Palin recently weighed in on the storm surrounding Chick-Fil-A and its stance against gay marriage. She tweeted a picture of herself at the restaurant and a message of support for the chain on Saturday.
Mediaite reports that CNN opened a segment about Palin's tweet with Pink's "Stupid Girl" on Sunday. "Sarah Palin is apparently hungry for chicken and controversy," anchor Randi Kaye said.
CNN later told Mediaite that the song choice was unintentional. "The music selection was a poor choice and was not intended to be linked to any news story. We regret any perception that they were planned together," a network spokesperson said in a statement.
OK. I presented the whole story (minus the video) because, frankly, it was too short not to.
Now, let's see if you can figure out the problem with this story. Is it...
a) Sarah Palin being her usual, idiotic, homophobic, hateful self and bragging about it.
b) CNN offending Palin and her groupies by using a song called "Stupid Girls"
c) HuffPo covering the "controversy" about CNN using the song
d) The fact that CNN considered a half-wit, half-baked, half-term, washed-up ex-governor's decision to buy a chicken sandwich to be worthy of news coverage in the first place.
If you chose d), congratulations.
Having said that, the song itself is pretty basic, but the video it goes with is a nice little female empowerment jab:
Frankly, CNN using that particular song was appropriate, but not for the reason that whoever made that decision probably thought. The reason Palin is so offensive to feminists (and, for that matter, anyone with half a brain) isn't so much because she's stupid in and of itself. Not every good person is a genius, and someone can be unintelligent and still be a good, decent person. It's because she's helped raise stupidity into something worthy of praise, as if it's a positive thing one should strive for and respect. That, plus, you know, the whole hateful, homophobic, racist, bile-spewing thing.
