The corporate line from Hyatt hotels is that UNITE HERE, the hotel workers union, is making stuff up, targeting Hyatt for some kind of unfair advantage despite Hyatt's innocence and adherence to industry standards. To succeed at that, Hyatt has to erase not only the many workplace safety citations it's racked up in recent years, but the voices of workers saying, as the eight women in this video say, "Hyatt hurts us ... Hyatt hurts our backs ... hurts our wrists ... hurts our hands ... hurts our shoulders."

Hyatt is trying to literally keep these women on their knees and in pain. We should be listening to them.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    It's not always easy to make our daily life match our politics.  This is one of those times when it is easy.  Boycott Hyatt!

  •  I haven't stayed at a Hyatt for at least a decade, (0+ / 0-)

    so my boycott now may not be immediately obvious to them.  I suspect that I am not all that unusual in this regard.  I think the best tactic is to urge those of us whose relatives might stay there to find somewhere else.

    'Unite Here' President John Wilhelm joined Bill to talk about the union’s battle against Hyatt:

    he said that Hyatt won't allow extensions on it's cleaning tools so the housekeepers have to clean bathrooms on their hands and knees;

    and they use to require housekeepers to clean 14 rooms a day but now they require 40;

    and that subcontracted housekeeping staff are replacing full time housekeeping Hyatt staff  and that the  subcontractored housekeepers aren't bonded - there is no background check on them by Hyatt or provided to Hyatt so now no one knows the people coming and going into Hyatt hotel rooms ( full time Hyatt housekeeping employees were bonded and had background checks)

      they lift-up one mattress 8 times to make a fresh bed; this is hard work...... welfare to work program provides a lot of single women, single mothers as employees to Hyatt but that's another issue of another day;
