DittoMorph is a word I coined to refer to a transformation in thinking: progressing from ideas and opinions based on those of an authoritative voice (i.e. ‘ditto’) to ideas and opinions based primarily on one’s independent analysis, synthesis, and interpretation of information and events.
On my blog at dittomorph.com, I aim to exalt the common voice by republishing what I regard as quality comments left by readers in response to mainstream news stories. These comments are more often than not drowned out by the partisan clamor of increasingly polarized voices.
Most of us are not professional journalists, mainstream news analysts, published writers, or politicians. We might not always have all the background knowledge or the accepted news-speak to express our ideas and opinions. Nevertheless, I think there is eloquence in truth and in gut feelings. When we begin to value one another's words and to recognize our shared struggles and aspirations, I think then we are back on the road to democracy.
