The Tea Party logic underlying Michele Bachmann's campaign of hate, which has of late trained its sights onto Huma Abedin, Keith Ellison, and others, continues to grow like a malignant tumor in the body politic.
While a few GOP leaders have denounced Bachman's vitriol, she continues to receive Republican support, and there is in fact a "conservative backlash against Bachmann’s critics". There has certainly been no Republican support for measures which would actually make her change her grotesque behavior, such as measures proposed here on DKos by Robert Naiman.
What happens when Republicans voice support for Bachmann's hate? It metastasizes of course. So now here come the latest Tea Party extremism. Gary Boisclair is set to run a series of extremist, hateful, gruesome TV ads in Minnesota, with bloody images of aborted fetuses, and one of which
describes the Qur'an as a book that "undermines our Constitution and says you should be killed"
and continues with the Bachmann depiction of Rep. Ellison as an extremist. Athough the ads feature "graphic images with extreme language",
local tv stations are apparently required by law to air them.
Ellison's spokersperson has responded saying
Mr. Boisclair's television ads are clearly designed to divide Minnesotans and spread fear
But Republican hate-mongering continues to grow, and breed more and more extremism against those whom it targets, particularly religious minorities and people of color. We know very well where this leads. It must stop now.
Robert Naiman's proposal mentioned above calling for sanctions against Bachmann would be a good start.
