Ann Coulter described Andrea Saul's comments as a “completely idiotic response” and called for the Romney campaign to "immediately fire her," or face a boycott of any further donations or support by "real conservatives."
MSNBC's, Alec Wagner, reported on The Last Word, with Lawrence O'Donnell, that conservatives are livid over today's comments by Andrea Saul that if the wife of the GTI Steel worker who died with no health care should have moved to Massachusetts to enjoy the benefits of Romneycare. I hesitate to use Josh Felman, at Mediate as a source, since I am unfamilar with him, however, the MSNBC transcript is not up yet, and the Ann Coulter's quote just too "frothy" to pass up, so this link is just for documentation. Ann Coulter Explodes at Romney Spokeswoman for Response to USA Ad She Needs To Be Fired.
Coulter repeatedly said that the ad was “repulsive” and referred to the president as a “despicable campaigner,” but it was Saul who bore the brunt of Coulter’s rage.
“Her response was not that it was despicable, not that Bain… that Romney had left Bain five years earlier or the woman died five years after the plant closed and didn’t even get her insurance from her husband, her response was, ‘Well, if she had lived in Massachusetts with Mitt Romney’s health care plan, she would have had health insurance.’ Anyone who donates to Mitt Romney, and I mean the big donors, ought to say if Andrea Saul isn’t fired and off the campaign tomorrow, they are not giving another dime, because it is not worth fighting for this man if this is the kind of spokesman he has… There’s no point in you doing your show, there’s no point in going to the convention and pushing for this man if he’s employing morons like this. This ad is the turning point and she has nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! She should be off the campaign.”
In the next segment of the show, during a discussion of Sandra Fluke going on the campaign trail with Obama, Coulter brought up Saul again, saying Fluke was the “Andrea Saul of the Obama campaign.” Hannity noticed how angry Coulter was with Saul.
I support a boycott of Romney donations not ony by conservatives, but everyone else as well.
Last week, I read a post by a hard core conservative suggesting that it might be better if fake conservative Romney lost in 2012, making room for one of the "rising star real conservatives" to run in 2016. Otherwise, Romney might destroy conservatism in a failed term, or worse get reelected delaying a real conservative president until 2020.
Wouldn't it be great if hard core conservatives start bailing on Mitt Romney in August. I didn't expect this until October.
8:19 PM PT: If you read RedState, and some of the conservative rags, the rage against Romney is so lively I wonder if some conservatives haven't made the conscious choice that Romney is their equivalent of John Edwards, whose campaign will implode with scandal over taxes, Bain, and perhaps, even other stuff we haven't heard yet, so figure it is better to take him out before the convention, to avoid a total disaster for the GOP in November.
Even though most of us have scoffed at the GOP convention replacement scenarios (even though I wrote one up as a thought starter three months ago,) is it possible hard core Republicans figure sticking with Romney all the way through November after a convention lock in could be worse?
8:31 PM PT: A comment by Nailbanger prompted this question which could become quite a bit more significant if true. From my response to to nailbanger below. Could it be
.. be possible that hard core conservatives realize that Romney is going to lose, or maybe even become the "John Edwards of the GOP" so it is better for them to cut their losses, now to preserve their own "credibility."
Like it would be better for their long-term reputations if they go down in history as the folks who took down Romney from the inside, rather than let it look like Democrats did it in a November landslide election that we will then use as evidence of public "refudiation" of their right-wing zealotry.
Dramatically, and publicly turning on Romney now could portray Romney as "the loser" rather than "right-wing zealotry" with would otherwise take the hit in November.
8:46 PM PT: There may be a witty quote in here someplace. Maybe
Like rats fleeing the sinking ship, ... so go the conservatives of the Romney campaign.
Universal permission granted for re-quoting. Say it's yours and spread it around. It may help start the "bandwagon effect."
