Writing on his facebook page, Ray Richardson reports that Gov. Paul LePage will not go to the Republican National Convention if the delegates elected at the Maine GOP Convention are denied credentials. In May, 15 supporters of Ron Paul were elected to represent Maine Republicans in Tampa next week, beating out a slate of Mitt Romney supporters.
Richardson's facebook post reads:
The Governor of Maine, Paul LePage, in a conversation five minutes ago said that if they do not seat the Maine Delegation at the RNC, he will not go. These folks need to be seated.
Peter Cianchette, the Maine chair for Mitt Romney's campaign, filed a challenge with the GOP Rules Committee two weeks ago, claiming that the slate of Paul delegates were not elected properly. Maine GOP Chair Charlie Webster put forth a compromise that was rejected by the Paul delegates two days ago.
It will be of interest to see how the Romney camp reacts to this.
A spokesman for the Governor's office declined to comment for this article.
