Anybody who has been paying attention to my comments here at TC (that may be a small number, LOL) knows that I recently moved from a vastly overpriced shithole my old campus apartment to a new apartment off-campus. It was a long, painful process, but I'm finally all moved in, my new furniture is here and is going to be all paid for next month, and I'm all settled.
And I'm loving it. Like, for real. Take into consideration that this is my old living room:
Yes, that's a concrete floor. And no, it was no bigger than that. It was basically size of a decent walk-in closet. I paid almost $1,100 per month for it. Keep in mind that I was moving from Pennsylvania, though, so I didn't have the ability to apartment shop, so I just went with on-campus housing. There was a reason I paid that much money to live in...that.
This is my new living room (before I moved in):
A little better, no? For that, I pay almost $700 per month. Yeah, I'm quite a bit better off now.
From the moment I walked in my new apartment, I was in love. It was even better than the apartment I originally toured, I'm blessed with a gorgeous peaked ceiling in my living room:
To put it lightly, I love the new place and can't stop raving about it. Follow me below the doodle-thingy for a virtual tour of the now-furnished Casa Chrislove.

I have to say, I'm in major love with my new furniture. I've never sat on a more comfortable sofa. Which is awesome for me, because I'm a couch-sleeper, and sleeping on my sofa is like sleeping on a cloud. I got the sofa and a love seat, both dark gray, which I think look quite nice in my living room. Here's the furnished living room:
Quite a bit more spacious than the old living room, huh? And yes, those are blue books on my coffee table...it wouldn't be home with a pile of blue books (fortunately, those have all been graded).
I'm still looking around for a nice dining room table and chairs, even though I'm not in a hurry. I never eat at the table anyway. Until then, the giant stuffed panda my boyfriend bought me several months ago has a room all to himself. Well, and my collection of plastic mugs I got from my old job (many of which I made or helped make myself, by the way).
It's nice to be able to move around in my kitchen, although I really do miss my granite counter. But in exchange, I got a dishwasher. Even though I never use it. I've never used a dishwasher in my life, aside from the big industrial-sized ones when I used to work in a kitchen, and I don't really plan to start now. Oh, and I really like my linoleum.
As for my bedroom, I unfolded my futon and made it into a temporary bed. I do plan to buy a bed eventually, but I'm going to shop around. Like I said, I'm a couch-sleeper. Of course, the BF is coming down next weekend, so he's probably going to be pissed when he finds out we're sleeping on the futon. Whoops!
And, as an added bonus, I have a balcony. Which I haven't used yet, and probably will very, very rarely use (it's Houston...who sits outside when they can enjoy air conditioning?), but it's nice just to have one.
Another of my favorite features in this apartment is my fireplace. I've always wanted one, and it's sort of ironic that I didn't have one in Pennsylvania, where I could actually use it, but I now have one in Houston. Oh well. It makes the living room look much lovelier. And I get to display my Obama plate and antique glasses on my mantle.
And there's one more perk...how could I forget this?
I have two weeks until fall classes start. You can bet I'm going to be one tan boy by then.

crystal eyes hit one out of the park with the best visualization of Willard's attempt to look down-home on the farm.
From surfbird007:
I just think this comment by Nina Katarina clever and hilarious.
From arizonablue:
This comment by American Zapatista is the perfect reply to Chrislove's diary.
From Melanie in Iowa:
This isn't a typical top comment. In Jim's Perseids diary this evening, Nurse Kelley began this thread. I include it here because it is full of love, going in many directions from many people.
From BentLiberal:
This comment by YuccaPete from 8ackgr0und N015e's front-paged diary on Ann Coulter made me chuckle.
From belinda ridgewood:
In my Thursday night diary about special characters in diaries, Horsefeathers stopped by to practice by illustrating the life cycle of the letter C. Before we knew it, the thread had moved on to the Godfather and, inevitably, Andy the cat showed up to assert his authority.
From lineatus:
Here's a joke for the grammar police. You have to start with middleagedhousewife's comment to appreciate revbludge's response.
From voracious:
This comment by Demi Moaned is really just a quote from Digby, but it sums up the situation presented in the diary by ThatPoshGirl perfectly.
From mdmslle:
I liked this comment by Troubador.
From eyesoars:
I'd like to nominate this comment by Retroactive Genius and this thread in cassandracarolina's diary. Aww, hell. So many of them are worthy, I recommend the whole thing.
From your humble diarist:
In my diary tonight on Pat Robertson's demand that gay people birth butt-babies or shut up, BoiseBlue pretty much nailed it with this comment.
