More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

We have been having a lot of fun with Romney's VeepStakes in New Hampshire, ever since Senator Kelly Ayotte's name was mentioned.  Various Granite Staters have been spreading (seemingly) snarky rumors that two even more absurd names were in the mix; State House Speaker Bill O'Brien and Congressman Frank Guinta.

But Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell as the Veep choice?  That's so absurd, it's not even funny: it's just plain depressing.

Romney is hurting badly with women voters so maybe he's given up trying to win them over and will name Transvaginal Bob to the ticket.

Or it could be a bluff and he'll stick with Portman or Pawlenty.

If he picks Pawlenty, the names on the GOP ticket blur nicely into "Money a'Plenty."  Kind of.

    I think it's Portman.

It's either Ryan (name of the ship) or McDonnell (state).

The first thing that entered my mind was "DIVERSION!" - then I remembered Willard's climbing aboard the Honkfest Express in the morning and forcibly invading Bob McDonnell's Virginia.

I think we know precisely what's the matter with Kansas.

I live in Virginia Beach, next door to Norfolk.  There really hasn't been a big play up of this locally.

I do see that the rally is scheduled for the Nauticus Center, where there's a cruise terminal and the USS Wisconsin is berthed.  This has been the location for a couple of days.

But it's a strange location - the deck area of the Wisconsin itself where he would make a speech is not that large at all, and the pier area right by the ship is small too.

If it is over by the cruise terminal, this is a bigger area, but even so probably only 1,500 people at most can fit.  If they move it out into Town Point Park, this would provide a large space where several thousand could fit.  But again, I don't think this is the case from what I've seen of the coverage as to how to get tickets, etc.

BTW - let's be sure to play up where this is being held. Nauticus and Town Point Park were the result of CITY redevelopment efforts.  The Waterside restaurant and entertainment facility were also built by the city (although currently doing poorly, it was a successful waterfront redevelopment for 20 years), and the city owns the marina there. The city did a great job with this, and has turned over mgmt of the marina to a private company, but still helps sponsor several festivals throughout the spring, summer and fall in conjunction with a public-private group FestEvents. We had the Tall Ships come in this year at the biggest festival, HarborFest.

The city also helped build Nauticus and the cruise terminal, and helped get the Wisconsin (although maintenance of the Wisconsin is now a private group's responsibility).

So Mitt's making his announcement at a socialist location.

... Mitt's spyware app are totally screwed now.  It was supposed to be a surprise!!! THEY were supposed to know first!!  Now all they have to do is turn on their TV's and learn who it is, just like the Democrats.  WAIT - I bet that Mitt tells them at 8:59 AM EDT, so they can have that warm fuzzy feeling.

And once the choice is announced Mitt's going to track what they do until election day, because the app has GPS tracking (coarse and granular) built right in to it.

I haven't been here long enough to be considered a Kossack, does that mean that I'm just a sack?

  •  Medicare as a Voucher System: (4+ / 0-)

Memo: To all Americans 65 or older, or approaching 65. Mitt Romney has signed on, by virtue of his VP choice, to  a system of vouchers that would replace your Medicare coverage by giving you a voucher requiring you to beg, door-to-door, from insurance companies to provide you and your spouse health care.  They would be free to refuse or charge you more than your voucher is worth.

    Welcome to the Romney Administration.

    Intrade now has as follows:

    Ryan         94%
    T-Paw         2.5
    Portman      1.5

now that looks like a done deal.

While he has very obvious vulnerabilities, Ryan, quite unlike Mitt, is actually rather likable. In his purple, surprisingly blue-collar, House district, he regularly ran ten points ahead of the Presidential ticket, and he's decently popular there to this day. Granted, he's a heartless extremist, but I doubt he's got any skeletons left in the closet...he's part of the GOP leadership and has been aggressively seeking this position to say the very least. I'm not trying to concern troll here- Ryan is potentially a very damaging VP pick- but let's not assume Obama's reelection is guaranteed against a Romney-Ryan ticket.

    •  I suppose it depends (1+ / 0-)
      Recommended by:

on your definition of "likable."  I would argue that the fact that Ryan feels that it's perfectly ok that he benefitted from his father's social security as a child, but doesn't want anyone else to, actually makes him rather unlikable.

Incidentally, I think that's one of the points the Obama team needs to hammer home.  The Ryan Plan, of course, needs to be exposed for what it is.  But after that's done, it needs to be pointed out that this is a man who took advantage of the very programs he's trying to take away from everyone else.  If this doesn't make him a textbook sociopath, I don't know what does.
