This is not about Paul Ryan the person, this is about his budget. Having listened to Paul Ryan he comes across as a nice, intelligent, decent person who cares about the future of America. Ryan is also a media darling and even Clinton kissed up to him. In my opinion attacking Paul Ryan would be a major mistake. This is about Ryan's Budget that Romney and almost every Republican endorsed.
Conservatives are thrilled about Paul Ryan because they think he's going help Romney make the argument that they have been dying to make which is the entitlement system is destroying this country and that the Ryan budget plan is the plan that will begin to reverse the entitlement society. The thing is, as we have seen today, is that Romney doesn't want to make that argument, he wants Paul Ryan as a symbol and a signal to conservatives that he will pursue that policy if he's elected. Romney is under the false impression that he can have Ryan on the ticket and not support the plan in this election. I believe that is critical for Obama, Democrats and us to focus all of our attention on Ryan's plan and not Ryan. As I said earlier, Ryan is smart and likeable and I truly believe that Ryan has the ability to persuade middle class people. Romney has no such gift and in fact Romney has already shown he doesn't want to defend it. We want to force Romney to defend this plan, we should hammer this plan from now until the election. We should take Ryan completely out of the equation and make Ryan's budget, Romney's Budget. If Obama and the Dems can do that this, it will be a landslide election for Democrats not only at the presidential level but also at the Senate and House level.
