BFitz, as many of us, particularly in the PWB Peeps, know is definitely one of the first ones to hand over money that she really doesn't have to help out whomever may need it. She has been Justice of the Peace in Washington County in Arkansas for a few years and is definitely a very progressive liberal Democrat. She is running for reelection this year and is facing off against a candidate that won't call herself a Tea Party Candidate; however if is quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it is a duck. This year, since the State of AR has reapportioned the state and changed her district area, she isn't a shoe-in, as she should be. She is going to have to actually fight hard this time and campaign with people who have no clue about her and her politics. We have met our goal and she and I both thank you very much. She currently has raised $2100 and will be able to do the circulars for both mailings and part of the doorknockers. She is still raising money, however to finish paying for the doorknockers and she has a paypal account just for her campaign, which is fitzpatrickJPdist8@yahoo.com. She just believes that the Kossacks have done their fair share. Below is a statement from her:
The position is Justice of the Peace, Washington County District 8. I currently serve on the Public Works committee, Finance Committee, Legislative Committee, and Budget Committee. I've been active in getting the schoolroom addition to the Juvenile Delinquency Center (JDC), municipal water to the southeast corner of Washington County, and a county-wide animal shelter with low-cost spay-neuter program and adoption program. The Quorum Court serves as the legislative branch at the county level. I've help put together balanced budgets with not only no cuts in services, but even some raises for county employees while maintaining at least two months' expenditure equivalent in reserves.
On my watch we've restored the historic courthouse, changed the coroner position from part-time to full-time and built a coroner's building (he had been leasing facilities from local funeral homes), rebuilt - right - the courthouse parking deck it partially collapsed on the first day of early voting 2008 (and paid for a shuttle service from the nearest parking garage so people could continue to early vote), and kept county employee insurance level for 8 years by increasing the County's share (unfortunately it will be going up next year, but only 5%).
She and I both want to share our gratitude to everyone here at DK and we both are very, very grateful and appreciate the help more than anyone knows.
If you are not a fan of Paypal and would like snail mail or would still like to donate, please let me know and I will make sure that you get it.
