Paul Ryan claims to be a Catholic. Yet his ideas on how to disperse and distribute national wealth has been denounced as immoral and contrary to Catholic teaching, both by Catholicbishops and by Catholic nuns.

Now, we know that Paul Ryan (despite his recent protestations to the contrary is a big, big, big fan of Ayn Rand, the atheist Social Darwinian who's response to the inhuman brutality of Communism is to essentially promote communism in inverse, denying and denigrating such unimportant human emotions as altruism, compassion, love, empathy, forgiveness - you know, those things that Jesus taught, in favor of egoism, revenge, self-centeredness, brilliantly shown by the "heroic" Howard Roark's dynamiting of someone else's property or Ayn Rand's admiration for serial killers.

But while all this is pretty evil and stuff, what does it have to do with Satan, other than the tangential fact that serial killers and Satan both fall under the "evil" tag?

But what does all this have to do with Satan?

Well, let's ask Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan! I think he'd be pretty knowledgable on what a "pro-Satan" ideology would look like.

"I give people Ayn Rand with trappings" - Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan (to Kim Klein of the Washington Post, 1970)
So, is Anton LaVey lying? What does he have to lie about?

What about the website of the Church of Satan?

Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, is an acknowledged source for some of the Satanic philosophy as outlined in The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey.
And what is this philosophy? Among other things, it contains;
. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
In short, you have no obligation to "abstain" for the sake of others, your society of your planet.
Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!
Only the rich and powerful deserve kindness, Christian love is wasted on the "ingrates" that are the poor, sick and old.
Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!
Only the wealthy and powerful are responsible, everyone else are psychic vampires.

Sound like any set of ideologies you know? Especially the first one. That can't be talking about, say, having a lot of money and indulging in luxuries (or just in having money) rather than giving up some of it to make your country stronger, because, like, that doesn't matter and stuff. Poor people? They're just ingrates, or moochers, or whatever derogatory term you wish to call them to suggest they made themselves poor, and thus you don't have any obligations towards them. Taxes? Unjust impositions on the heroic master-class (a master-class that was proven to be such by their ability to make as much money as possible while doing as little as possible). Obligations to society? Those don't exist, so it's perfectly okay to strip away "the public good" (both conceptually and literally) for greater profit, because the individual is literally, God, and the "lesser peoples" are either obstacles to be rolled over, moochers to be cast off, or fodder to be farmed. So when you see Ryan trying to strip healthcare away from poor and old people, or to make it easier to send middle-class jobs overseas, or Mitt Romney campaigning to make it so sick people (er, people with "pre-existing conditions) can't get the care they need to live, or for self-styled guardians of freedom to argue that "freedom" requires us to unchain greedy and sociopathic banking institutions, just remember from where this ideology springs.

Paul Ryan and the Republicans claim to be pious Christians, but it seems that the only parts of the Bible that seem to legitimize oppression, restriction and pain - never the parts about turning the other cheek (in fact, Satanism says to SMASH the cheek of someone who strikes your cheek; Randianism says it's okay to commit terrorism against people who don't adhere to your word in every detail), or the part about the rich finding it very very hard to get into heaven,, nah, being a Christian means hating gay people and contraception.

While claiming to be Christian, the American Right, in its words and actions, can only be described as Satanic in nature, and thus, a vote for the GOP is a vote for darkness, despair and evil. I am not being hyperbolic, what "conservatism" represents can only be described as such.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

The problem is that the left has sucked at talking morals since the 30s, and people who swing conservative do so despite their own interests because conservatives speak in moral language, of good versus evil, of darkness versus light. We need to flip the script, and convince them that they are wolves in sheep's clothing, that they are the darkness in this battle.

Enough with these diaries about good Christians vs. bad Christians and "Satan" ( a silly mythology) and the atheism of Ayn Rand!

The religious right cherry picks the bible and the religious left cherry picks the bible and each side claims that they represent Christianity.  They're both right and they are both wrong, and we'll never get anywhere in this country if we keep tying our political diaglogue to religion!

As an atheist who was a former Christian and who has read not only the whole bible, but other texts as well as the whole history of Christianity, I can summarize my view of so-called "Judeo-Christian values" this way: the god of the old testament was immoral, the concept of hell (endorsed by "Jesus") is immoral and the whole idea of salvation is immoral and ridiculous.

Plus, the Bishops of the Catholic Church have absolutely NO moral authority to be commenting on ANY topic.

So when people get into these diatribes about politicians and religion, my eyes glaze over.

Paul Ryan and those like him are wrong because their economic views are destructive to a well functioning and progressive society and country. Countries that take care of their children and elderly do better than countries that don't.   THAT's why he's wrong, not because he is a religious hypocrite.

This is a false equivalence, once again. The Left, in this period of history, is in no way as guilty, and certainly not to as damaging effect, as the Right.

THAT's why he's wrong, not because he is a religious hypocrite.
But he's also a religious hypocrite, and he is so in such a way that to call him on it directly indicts his character at a most fundamental level.

Plus it exposes the American Taliban for the Satanic allies that they are.

      Metaphorically speaking.

simply by claiming that the Right does not.  They are  guilty of cherry picking the texts to present this nice peaceful benign community orgranizer love everyone Jesus and a loving "God", while ignoring the dark side of both. That is also hypocritical because they present a set of texts that is not benign as benign.  You only have to read the texts to see that. The Right also cherry picks the texts on the side of the harsh and judgemental "God" and Jesus. And a substantial amount  of the texts supports them in those attitudes.

The only difference for me is that I'd rather be in a room with the left because they aren't as obnoxious, and many of them support separation of church and state. Plus their moral views (which are more humanistic than religious) are more in line with what constitutes a healthy society.

But I'm good with the rest of your post.

I'm not an atheist, but I see your point.

I believe my point stands as well though. There's a deep sense of justice that occurs when fake pious people get exposed for their chicanery. One of the best ways is to hoist them on their own petard.

First and foremost the American Taliban cannot claim to be followers of Jesus and then wave around the Old Testament as an excuse for persecuting gays.

My favorite is that the American Taliban supposedly emulates a savior who was wrongfully convicted and then executed. AND they are the most blood thirsty in calling for the death penalty. There is no way to reconcile those two positions, and leave these idiots with any semblance of integrity.

They are, however, as a bloc, dangerous. As we've seen.

        •  The issue with this is that; (0+ / 0-)

Simply put, the "right-wing" aspects of the Bible (genocide, war, racism, women's oppression, arbitary restrictions on behavior) were largely and explicitly negated by the "left-wing" aspects (Jesus and most of the rest of the NT forward, at least until Paul hijacked the whole thing).

Honestly, I think the Gnostics called it right - there is no way the vengeful God of most of the Old Testament could possibly have been the loving God of the New Testament.

And yeah, I'd love someone, anyone to say, in no uncertain terms, that Republican ideology places its adherents in danger of perdition. I'm religious, and I believe God is not a hypocrite. So I refuse to believe that gay sex puts one more in danger of Hell than starving poor people, just because right-wingers say so.

Reasonable people, even those with religion, can see simple equivalencies such as this...I am so sorry that the right has been able to besmirch the name of Progressivism.  Because truth be told, it is based on a rational reading of what is needed and how to get there, based upon a coordinated effort through society , including governmental action.  Somehow the right has caused the default assumption that "the Government" is some kind of bogeyman organization that does stuff to us.  The only way that can be is if we, who ARE the government, abrogate our responsibility to put reasonable, rational people who resist ideological arguments, graft, corruption and the pull of power, and remember the reason they are their is to represent us for the greater good of the country and society.

  •  Im not a christian (0+ / 0-)

BUT I do know that the FOUNDER of Christianity is quoted as saying unambiguously.."for I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven"  He prefaces that comment that those who do not help the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and instead put up riches for themselves have their reward.  So I guess the draw of all this earthly bling simply overwhelms their concerns about spending eternity in Heaven.  Seeing that result would almost make it worth it to me to find out the christian Heaven is true, except I have to deal with the greedy bastards here on earth!
