The slaughter continues.
St. John the Baptist Parish is north of New Orleans, LA.
Details below.
New Orleans this morning:
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office has five suspects in custody in connection with an early morning shootout that left two sheriff's deputies dead and two other deputies seriously injured from multiple gunshot wounds from an assault weapon. St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre has planned a 3 p.m. news conference to deliver an update on the investigation.
Tregre said the two deputies -- Jeremy Triche and Brandon Nielsen -- were "ambushed" in the Riverview Trailer Park in LaPlace as they were interviewing two suspects in connection with an earlier shooting involving another sheriff's deputy.
Tregre said the deputies were responding to a call and were talking to the suspects when a third person opened fire on the unsuspecting deputies.
"Another person exited that trailer with an assault weapon and ambushed my two officers," Tregre said.
The suspects, whose names have not been released, are believed to live in the trailer court, Tregre said.
It is unknown whether the same weapon was used in both shootings.
Triche and Nielson were investigating an earlier shooting during which deputies Jason Triche and Michael Scott Boyington were shot while working a traffic detail at a remote parking lot for the Valero refinery at the intersection of Louisiana 3217 and Airline Highway.
Those deputies have been taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Tregre has said he doesn't know what prompted the initial attack.
If the same assault weapon was not used for both shootings; obv that means there's two weapons involved here. I have to wonder how many of these perps were felons, on parole, in other words they were not supposed to be in possession of any sort of gun, much less an assault rifle.
This is weak, very weak.
