Wow, I couldn't believe it when I saw none other than Benjamin Smith trotting out the swiftboating of President Obama. Nevermind that Admiral McRaven ended all discussion about this matter, but yet here we have the same sad story being propped back up by either Rover or the Koch boys.

To be sure I have the right man:

Former special forces officers slam Obama over leaks on bin Laden killing
By Dugald McConnell and Brian Todd, CNN
http://www.cnn.com/...

As a citizen, it is my civic duty to tell the president to stop leaking information to the enemy," says Benjamin Smith, identified in the video as a former Navy SEAL. "It will get Americans killed."

Smith said the ad campaign pays no heed to political affiliation, and the organization describes itself as nonpartisan and says its focus is on protecting intelligence agents and special operations officers, not on politics.

For those we don't remember, Benjamin Smith of OPSEC.org, here is what got him on the map of his Republican paymasters, originally circulated by email as Right-Wing hate monger is prone to be:
President Barack Hussein Obama - STOP using the Navy SEALS as a campaign ploy. Because with all due respect, (what little I have for you), you do NOT speak for me.

You have a movie about SEALS within the past year trying to identify with me, with the navy SEALS, and with anything that might improve your polling numbers... and yet it is all a sham to hide a weak un-American man desperate to claim the victories of others for his own.

You Sir are trying to take the credit for what the American People have achieved in killing Bin Laden. Your use of the SEALs accomplishment as a campaign slogan is nothing less than despicable. I, as a former Navy SEAL do not accept your taking credit for Osama Bin Laden's death. The American Military accomplished that feat.

Yet now that it is useful, you Mr. President, continue to refer to the event as if it were YOU and you alone which accomplished the worthy task of slaying one of America's greatest enemies. You say "I directed", "I Continued", "My Intelligence Community", "My national security team", "I determined that I had enough....", "My direction..."

Yet reliable sources continue to report that not only did you attempt to stop or delay Bin Laden's demise, you did not even leave the golf course for the situation room until 20 minutes before SEAL Team 6 took out Osama Bin Laden. Even the clothes you wore in the situation room betray this fact. This is a Commander in Chief? A man who takes credit for actions largely taken while he was out golfing?

We men who have taken the oath, say ENOUGH. You do not speak for me, a former Navy SEAL, or any one of the league of men whom I have earned the right to be among. You are simply a man running for an office. Yet you behave as a glory-hoarding ruler. You campaign to be our leader, yet in reality you wish to be our Master.

The American people are the ones who got Bin Laden... You did Not! We have fought wars and slugged it with Vast Terror Organizations to get to the man you say YOU killed. The United Sates of America has won you a title sir and you have spent the last three years trying to beg, borrow and bow as you GIVE IT ALL AWAY. You just happened to be president of the USA when WE THE PEOPLE got Osama Bin Laden. We do not see you as heroic or stoic, we see you as the guy who let America Go. We got fat and weak and you gave it all away. That is your credit - you bow to foreign leaders and pander to the press. You do not represent me as a Military Man. You do not represent me as a SEAL. You do not represent me as an AMERICAN!

You do not speak for me or any American military man because though you may now be Commander in Chief, you are not the man to whom we can point our sons and say "This is the American dream, this is American exceptionalism, this is what I wish for your future"
, because you Sir are NONE of these things. You Sir, are the antithesis of American Exceptionalism. Your idols are Saul Alinksi and Karl Marx and your revolutionary dreams and anti-American ideals poison your every policy. Your every action betrays the fact that in your soul you do not understand what it is to be an American, notwhat America truly is. Your agenda from the beginning has been to get rid of and kill everything that is and ever was American. You who so easily dismisses America's greatness and bows to foreigners... YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE NAVY SEALS. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE MILITARY MAN AND you SHALL NOT claim as your prize that which you have not earned. The Navy SEALS are NOT a campaign slogan to be bantered about for play. Nor are our accomplishments, including the demise of Osama Bin Laden, yours to claim. So you DO NOT speak for me. And I will not stand for your use and abuse of my brethren the SEALS.

For Liberty,
Benjamin Smith

So here we go folks, here is the real root of the issue for OPSEC.org and its members like Benjamin Smith. His problem is Obama is not American enough for him, and that what little soul Obama does has is obviously tied to the wants and desires of a foreign power.

Also, this is funniest part:

The Navy SEALS are NOT a campaign slogan to be bantered about for play.
Benjamin Smith is being played by the GOP for politics is either lost on him, or he is on the payroll. I am going with the second option.

Now, besides that, we have a bunch of other charges and slurs thrown against the Commander-in-Chief from a Navy Seal who has obviously forgotten his training and decorum of that of an officer. Lying is not a good look on a Seal.

Luckily for us, Snopes.com has already done all the heavy lifting fact checking the wonder boy of OPSEC.org.

Former Navy Seal Rebukes Obama
http://snopes.com/...

Origins: This item attributed to a former Navy SEAL named Benjamin Smith is long on invective about the author's dislike for President Barack Obama but short on presenting a factual basis justifying that opinion.  The only bit in this piece that could be considered an objectively verifiable statement is the following:
I am not going to steal Snopes.com traffic, because they systematically destroy Benjamin Smith and all his talking points.

They also bring up Admiral McRaven, who has repeatedly backed up the President and his administration to resolve the crisis no Republican could, or wanted, to solve. Now the same Republicans are trotting out known liars and besmirchers of the uniform ready to risk their and the Navy Seal's reputation for a few cheap political points.

So let's remind the people who these people are, who their paymasters are and who is the real "un-American" in the room.

From Benjamin Smith's Facebook bio:

Benjamin is also a freelance contributor to Breitbart.com, prolinenews.com, RadioPatriot.wordpress.com and has been on FOX News several times.

Benjamin is a spokesman for America’s Mighty Warriors and was a national spokesman for Tea Party Express in the Alaska campaign for Joe Miller and the Delaware campaign for Christine O’Donnell.

Wow, he can pick them can't he? Breitbart, prolinenews! Joe Miller AND Chistine O'Donnell, aka I am not a witch?
He also had the distinct honor of representing American values by going
against Cindy Sheehan protests in Hood River, Oregon.
Hmm, where is Cindy Sheehan these days?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Navy SEAL Benjamin Smith served with the Teams for just under 6 years. He deployed on numerous covert missions to South America, Africa and the Middle East as he upheld the oath he took to defend our country against enemies, foreign and domestic. Benjamin is also an actor, model, contributing author, public speaker, and Constitutionalist.

Ben didn't end his oath when he left the military. He con
tinues to stand against the enemy here at home by speaking out against those who wish to take away the freedoms granted to us by the documents our Founding Fathers penned.

Did he just leak where he was?

And if he didn't end his oath, isn't what he is doing against the code of honor for Navy officers?

To sad really, the GOP probably hopes this gambit leaves the metasphere asap.

For anyone who doesn't know, OPSEC is short for operational security, the processes & procedures used to minimize the risk that details of a military or intelligence operation will become known to the target or other hostile parties.

Among other things, that includes protecting the identities of the participants.

From the information that guy provided, it becomes possible for a hostile foreign intel agency, or a well-organized subnational group*, to ascertain who else was on this guy's team, and from there, piece together where they were and what they did.

OPSEC rules typically include:  NEVER discuss or disclose biographical details that can be used to identify persons or piece together details of operations.

This guy just blew it, and then he has the nerve to name his swiftboat after it.

So he's also an actor and a model?  What's that mean, he's a porn star?   He really ought to stick to making porn, because he ain't doin' so well in his other gig.

Spread the meme:  OPSEC has bad OPSEC!

*Subnational group:  I was going to say "such as Al Qaeda," but Obama's been doing a darn good job finishing them off; however the international drug cartels are a damn good example too.

We used to laugh at the SEALs because they couldn't plan their way out of a bathroom.

      Wet and Sandy, eh?

That could be a reference to SEAL teams landing on beaches, but it sure does remind one of Hot and Hunky or Rough and Ready, and similar names used by porn stars and male escorts.

Oh, and where's the documentation and verification that this guy ever actually served?  Didn't the Supreme Court just rule that faking military honors is protected speech (another back-asswards ruling if ever there was, see also "fraud")....?

It doesn't help his case that he calls himself an actor and a model!

Anyone care to use some face-matching software to see if he can be spotted on any porn sites?

    that hasn't read the Constitution.

He does get that the Seals are a tool that the President uses to accomplish strategic goals yes?

Me thinks he's not fond of Obama, but unfortunately the spew there is just anti-American trash.

Guessing the 'facts' about timing and where Obama was will be debunked in the Snopes piece. Yeah, the golf course crud just screams teabagger lunacy.

Amazes me that he actually believes that no one will check on his late night, delusional rant.

But it's nice to know where he gets his info from...and now his career and his reputation no longer mean squat. He can sit at the home with McCain and relive when they had respect. It's gone now.

  •  What about the CIA? (4+ / 0-)

Those fuckers found bin laden, verified his location, all in a very hostile part of the world. What risks did they take, and at what costs?
The OpSec assholes take full credit for something that isn't theirs anyway (were any on the team?) and then really wasn't a simple military operation anyway .

This was a project that had huge risks for the CIA, the military, and the diplomatic corps.  It was a coordinated project that didn't leak.

.... declassify & disclose more of it than usual, was:

      a) one of the classified stealth helicopters hit a fence in the compound and could not be flown out, so it had to be destroyed as far as possible where it had landed, but big enough chunks remained as to be identifiable as American.

      b) some individuals found at the site had to be turned over to Pakistani government custody.

      c) the Pakistani government, such "good friends" that they are, started issuing news releases saying that there was not a firefight, but that the US forces had shot Bin Laden in cold blood outside the building and in front of his family.  Had this gained traction it would have turned some "undecideds" toward supporting Al Qaeda.

Circumstances forced Obama to reveal more than his (often overprotective) nature would have wanted to reveal.  (Obama's protection of secrets is often directly criticized in these pages for going too far.)

Oh, and why didn't these swiftboaters complain about Bush declassifying and revealing information about intel on Iraq's supposed WMD, that led to the outing of a CIA covert action case officer* and the immediate danger that caused for a number of covert agents in the field?

      ----

*Case officer:  LE and intel have different terms for these things:

FBI: an employee of the Bureau is an "agent."  Agents work on "cases."  Civilians who help an agent with a case are "sources."

CIA:  an employee of the agency is a "case officer."  Case officers work on "operations" and "projects."  Foreign nationals who help a case officer with an operation or a project are "agents."

      Yeah it can get confusing;-)

I as a former Navy SEAL, who had nothing to do with the operation to capture and kill Osama bin Laden, do not accept you taking credit for the active Navy SEALs (that anyone paying attention knows you didn't take credit for).
The Navy SEALS are NOT a campaign slogan to be bantered about for play.
    And yet...
OPSEC's spokesmen said, the group expects to produce TV spots on the anti-leak theme that will air in a number of states, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada - key battleground states.
Where was this situational patriot with an ad showing a national security leak directly linked to the White House, namely Dick Cheney's role in outing a CIA agent, Valerie Plame?

really "repeatedly backed up the President and his administration"?

His February 2012 lobbying, via front page New York Times, to let Special Operations go free and unrestrained worldwide, caught the State Department by surprise, and had State throwing a shit fit.

McRaven backing up the administration just isn't how I'd characterize that recent and major infighting battle, at all.
