And a cool morning to all of you!

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

A cold front came through yesterday afternoon, bringing rain and - get this - cooler weather!  Lows in the upper 60's, highs in the low 90's.  I turned my poor, overworked little window unit off and it was still cool enough to cook on the stovetop and to use the oven.  It hasn't been cool enough to use the oven since May!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Yay for a break in the heat!! (7+ / 0-)

We're still about the same, mid to high 70's at night, and mid 90's during the day, with rain possible in the afternoon. The only real problem is, we haven't been able to open up the house during the rain to cool it off. We can open things up if the rain is coming off the ocean, but if it's coming off the Gulf everyone's eyes get red and itchy and weepy, and antihistamines only seem to go so far towards helping. I suspect it's some sort of chemical coming off the Gulf spill area that's the reason as it doesn't normally do this, and it seems to be the rain itself that brings it.

Good morning, Noddy.  Noodling around on the net now, but about to shower and get ready to get the morning errands over early, since today I have to produce a first draft of an essay (3000 words) on three xenophobic propositions that appeared on the California ballot between 1994 and 2000.

Enjoy the break in the weather!

  •  Good morning. (6+ / 0-)

Glad it's cooled off a bit for you Noddy.  The weather in Chicago has been beautiful for the past week and a half.
70's and going up to the low 80's next week.  Just doing stuff today, like cleaning and laundry.  Have a great day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

This is a great idea. It's overcast today in the Harrisburg area. If the weather holds, I'll be heading over to the nursery this afternoon.

Hope you have a great week!

I'm glad you finally got some.  It's been cooler here for a few days.  I love having the windows open.  I'm running late again, so I'm off to church now.  Have a great day all!

good sleeping weather, and also good for working outside today.  Lots to do, will not get it all done in one day.

Went to the "Largest" antique show in NY last three days, overwhelming amount of stuff, It runs a week, but I'll never drive that far to be so tired again! I do love my sister, but too much!

Saw a vender selling "steampunk"  lamps and others selling steampunk parts, like old clockworks and other gearlike-mechanical things.  Thought of you, Noddy and the folks who will be enjoying the OctopodiCon Conference in October!

another rain & thunderstorm came through in the evening yesterday, and the temps dropped noticeably. Delicious. I slept well & actually slept in, now that my little temp job is over I can do that :)

  •  cooler here, went wading yesterday anyway... (1+ / 0-)

down to the 70's after our trio of "summer" days in the mid-90's -- and boy do I feel silly getting the vapors over 3 days of 95, after what most of you have been through so far this year!

the wading was in the back-yard water feature pond... 2 layers of depth, a little waterfall we built ourselves (and have re-built and re-built and ... over the years, mostly hunting leaks!)

anyway, the aerating plants* were completely out of control so we hauled them all out, washed off that little mille-foil green stuff that covers the surface if you let it? (ah! "duckweed"); hauled out the plant pots -- the lotus weighed a ton and is long gone; ended up dividing the Thalia; the regular water lily managed to survive with one leaf intact [I think I managed to rip off a couple when we started taking out the aerator-jungle, 8-( ]

*we cleaned out the Parrot's feather a year or so ago (on principal, it's an invasive); Wiki sez' the vast majority of what we removed yesterday was "Primrose creeper" -- it tries to creep OUT of the water; we have some "creeping Jenny" but it mostly grows beside the pond, with only occasional feelers reaching TOWARD the water; don't have any water hyacinth this year, they don't overwinter here and are expensive to replace... ; cleaned out something I call "wire-weed"...

stirred up enough mud that I hope we didn't "drown" our skeeter-eater gambujia! AND we'll be having to clean the pump intake for a couple of days while all the floating bits jam it up... I should go do it right now, but am gonna' wait for teh DH, for moral support, 8-)  Nothing like starting the day up to your armpit in muddy water! .... done, but looks like we need to clean the filter medium...

Had to go hand-water the watermelon vines, trying again this year. the season usually isn't long enough up here, but maybe with the weird weather...

    •  You sound really busy (0+ / 0-)

I'm often glad I don't have a pond, and then I think about how much I love the friendly and trainable koi fish...

We have 2 watermelon seasons here - plant in April for melons by July 4th, plant in early August for melons at Thanskgiving.  Our growing season is March to December (with some row covers and such in December and March, and shade covers from May to September so it doesn't fry). We might get an occasional snow or bit of ice as early as October, but it only lasts a day or two when we get them.
