You are flat out wrong on all counts

The Family Research Council, a mainstream conservative think tank founded by James Dobson and run for many years by Gary Bauer.
But even if he doesn’t, the Southern Poverty Law Center should stop listing a mainstream Christian advocacy group alongside neo-Nazis and Klansmen.
Dana you do not have to have a shaved head covered in Swastika tattoos to hate, you can do so in a soft voice full of "Christian" sentiments.

There is nothing mainstream about the Family Research Council, and if you believe it is  mainstream then we really do have a problem in our society.

When you spread propaganda in order to take away the civil and human rights of a part of the population, you are not mainstream; and if you think that it ends there you are wrong. There is a twist in their words about other religions

Family Research Council opposes any actions by Federal or state legislatures to curb the freedom of religious expression, or to criminalize under so-called "hate crime" legislation any individual who expresses moral beliefs.
So as long as they deem your outrage moral, hate away.

As for homosexuality, from their lovely mainstream website

Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed.  It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects.  While the origins of same-sex attractions may be complex, there is no convincing evidence that a homosexual identity is ever something genetic or inborn.
Stating

Homosexuals are a danger to society

Homosexuals are unnatural.

Without a shred of proof, propaganda at its worst

We oppose the vigorous efforts of homosexual activists to demand that homosexuality be accepted as equivalent to heterosexuality in law, in the media, and in schools.
We declare homosexuals second class citizens.

Which flies in the face of

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
When you single out a minority of the population and every step you take is to deny them equality, you are on a very slippery slope if you regard this action as being somehow "mainstream". Substitute Jew in the place of homosexuals and you get my drift

Just like this effort by the FRC to justify their lies

If you go back to the Archives of Sexual Behavior, a peer-reviewed reviewed journal, that stated that in self-identified… 86% of men, homosexual men, or who engage… or men who engage in molestation of children, 86% of them identified as homosexual or bisexual. That study has not been refuted.

The reason the FRC is legitimately a part of the SPLC’s list of hate groups is their penchant for taking one line from a study out of context, and present that single sentence as being somehow more significant than the tons of studies that experts in the field of child sexual abuse have conducted through the ages.

Just because you consider this part and parcel of "mainstream conservative values" doesn't mean that it is not hate speech, just ask African Americans how that one felt.
