Now that we have the Todd Akin experience, it behooves us to take a step back for a moment. You see, Will Rogers did have it right - we are not an organized political party. We are Democrats (or most of us are, any way). We are all progressives though, which means we are not sheep. We disagree sometimes. We argue. Between ourselves and with our elected officials.
Somewhere between the people who support President Obama, and the trolls that would do him harm, are a group of non-enthusiastic progressives who just don't think he's done enough. Whatever the issue, it didn't go all the way (or enough of the way) for you.
Maybe it's one issue for you - maybe a group of them - but I have read it here. You'll never vote for the Democrats again. You'll never vote for President Obama again. Well, what's it going to take to get you enthusiastic?
Look at them on the other side. Honestly. You still aren't motivated, really?
Let me give you some reasons to get that way:
Is it enough for you that the Republican party is now made up of the overtly racist and those willing to accept them in order to win?
How about the fact that they don't believe you have the right to go to the doctor of you need medical attention?
What about their drive to bust unions across this country?
The fact that they find rape to be not an act of violence, but rather a convenient excuse to allow a women to have an abortion?
The fact that they don't trust women, people of color, gay people, or anybody who is not them in general - so NO RIGHTS FOR YOU?
Let me say this once: This is not like 2004, 2008 or even 1980. This could be like 1964, when the Democrats wiped the Republicans across the floor like a squished bug. Seriously. It could be. But it won't if none of this is good enough for you, and you stay home, don't vote, don't volunteer, don't participate in any way.
And if you aren't motivated enough now to participate and win this thing, and the loonies on the right win it all instead - well, will you be motivated enough to forgive yourself? Or will you sit there and ask yourself where your democracy just went?
