According to TalkingPointsMemo, Todd Akin is going to hold a press conference at 4:15PM Central Time. The only possible reason to call a press conference at this point in the race after that comment he made is to drop out of the race. I don't think you'd call a press conference to announce you're staying in the race when you've already made comments about that previously to the news outlets.

Todd Akin will address the media at 5:15 Eastern Time, according to a release from his campaign. The full text:

St. Louis - Todd Akin will hold a press conference in St. Louis County today at 4:15pm central time.  Details to follow.

We'll see what happens in about forty minutes from now.

UPDATE: It does seem that in fact, Akin has called a press conference to announce that he's staying in the race according to tweets from reporters. What a waste of a press conference.

UPDATE 2: He actually is going to reiterate that he's staying in the race according to Politico, and it's because of support from Mike Huckabee and the crazy religious whackos that he's going to stay in the race.

Rep. Todd Akin is calling a press conference Friday afternoon in Missouri to say what he’s been saying all week: He’s staying in the race.

A source close to Akin said the congressman felt boosted by support from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and conservative leaders he met with at a Council for National Policy conference in Tampa, Florida earlier in the week.

I never thought I'd say this, but thank you, Mike Huckabee, and the Family Research Council, for delivering this race to us.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
