The Vietnam War was the defining political, cultural, moral event for anyone Mitt's age. There was plenty of info in Chuck Todd's Mitt bio on how his time as a missionary formed his worldview. No mention that this role gave him a draft deferment, which allowed him to avoid service in the war altogether. After the 31 month deferment, the war was winding down and he wasn't called. Not only did Mitt avoid the draft through the use of 4 separate deferments, he was hypocritical enough to at the same time actively support the war. That this important info was left out of Todd's report shows just how much of a puff piece it was.
The rest of the piece was equally unbalanced. Mitt comes off looking like a saint. No mention of his school bullying days. No mention of how the Romneys were so poor in their work-free college years that they "had to sell some stock," as Ann Romney put it.
But it was the absence of info on Mitt's draft deferments while pushing for the war that was the real tip off that this report was nothing but a puff piece.
