My husband and I have recently been engaging in a little game where every time we see a Romney rally clip, we watch the audience for the demographics and put it on a chart. Out of 12 clips since we started this, we have seen exactly two black people, no Hispanics that we could identify as so, and never, not one, Asian.
But what we HAVE seen is PLENTY of white people from 25 to 55. Lots and lots, in fact usually, this age group seems to be the majority, and they are cheering the GOPs radical platforms with all the gusto we Democrats cheer for ours.
I realize this is anecdotal evidence, still it seems hard to deny that the narrative that I often hear---that this radical GOP is an OLD white party, a long with hopes they're soon to die out is questionable, to say the least. It is most certainly a white party. But Romney's rallies show their younger base is alive and well.
Seems to me the only way this radical right rendition of the GOP will die is if the electorate rejects their ideas enough times for the moderates to regain control of their party. And I fear that's going to take a long, long time, as tight elections do not persuade either side they had the wrong message.
What about y'all? Anyone else watch the audiences at Romney's rallies and come to the same or different conclusions?
