Pez was invented in 1927 by Eduard Haas, an Austrian anti-smoking fanatic, who marketed peppermint-flavored PEZ as a cigarette substitute. The candy gets its name from the German word for peppermint, Pfefferminze. Haas brought the candy to the U.S. in 1952. It bombed, so he reintroduced it as a children's toy, complete with cartoon heads and fruity flavors. One of the most secretive companies in the U.S., PEZ won't even disclose who currently owns the company.
Most toilets flush in E flat.
The first VCR, made in 1956, was the size of a piano.
Cigarette filters are defective — and the companies know it. You may be inhaling filter fibers into your lungs.
Most cigarette filters are made of the same material as camera film (cellulose acetate).
Each individual filter is made of thousands of tiny fibers.
The inside of the filter is painted white to make it appear clean.
During smoking, these fibers can come off into your mouth and be inhaled into your lungs.
The exact geographic center of the United States is near Lebanon, Kansas. If you could cut out the United States, its center of gravity would be at Friend, Nebraska.
In ancient Japan public contests were held to see who in a town could break wind loudest and longest. Winners were awarded many prizes and received great acclaim.

Researchers in Denmark found that beer tastes best when drunk to the accompaniment of a certain musical tone. The optimal frequency is different for each beer, they reported. The correct harmonious tone for Carlsberg Lager, for example, is 510-520 cycles per second.

Tobacco products are the only legal consumer products that are LETHAL when used exactly as the manufacturer intends.
Only one satellite has been ever been destroyed by a meteor: the European Space Agency's Olympus in 1993.
Time slows down near a black hole; inside it stops completely.
Kids are three times as sensitive to tobacco advertising as adults.
Experiments conducted in Germany and at the University of Southampton in England show that even mild and incidental noises cause the pupils of the eyes to dilate. It is believed that this is why surgeons, watchmakers, and others who perform delicate manual operations are so bothered by noise. The sounds cause their pupils to change focus and blur their vision.

John Quincy Adams on Smoking
In 1845, the sixth US President, John Quincy Adams, wrote a letter to Rev. Samuel Cox in Brooklyn, who was in the process of writing a book about tobacco and smoking. Adams told Cox that when he was a young man, he had been addicted to both smoking and chewing tobacco. When he decided to quit it took him three months.
He wrote:
'I have often wished that every individual afflicted with this artificial passion could force it upon himself to try but for three months the experiment which I made, sure that it would turn every acre of tobacco land into a wheat field, and add five years to the average of human life'.
