We have all heard the "who would you like to sit down and have a beer with?" question for deciding who to vote for for president. I've found a better question when dealing with the 18 - 45 year old male demographic. This is going to sound stupid to some of you. But I have friends and acquaintances who could careless about politics. My solution for persuading some guys is below the orange bio-hazard squiggle.

The question is "who do you want on your team when the zombie apocalypse comes and the shtf: Obama or Romney?". So far I haven't found anyone that would choose Mittens. There are Romney characters in zombie movies. The best is played by Dennis Hopper in the "Land of the Dead" (2005). Hopper's character, Paul Kaufman, is a perfect projection of Mitt Romney in a zombie world.

In the "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) the main character, Ben, reminds me of Obama. The part of Ben was surprisingly enlightened for 1968. A serious African-American character who could take command of a situation and do what was necessary without apologies or asking permission. George Romero deserves a lot of credit for "Night of the Living Dead" as a horror movie that explored dark side of human nature and encapsulated the 1960's a-world-gone-mad feeling.

For those of you who feel that talking about zombies trivializes the election, my answer is - I will say anything that is true and honest to convince someone to vote for Obama. If this analogy makes them see who the better man is all for the good.  I'm all for anything, truthful, that motivates them to get into the voting booth and pull the lever, punch the card or touch the screen for Obama and the down ballot Democrats.

Lets face it many of the voters we're talking to on the phone and door to door are none political (is that an oxymoron - voters who don't care about politics).  My own sister just asks me who she should vote for when an election comes around. I give a short synopsis and make sure she has the right name, and she goes in and votes. Anytime, I try to say more she starts talking about how she doesn't trust any politician they're all bad etc, etc.

Trust me with a certain politically detached demographic the zombie apocalypse question works. I plan to keep it in my GOTV bag of tricks.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

not all that different from the old question of who (ok- whom) you would rather be in a foxhole with.

45 know what it is like to be in a fox hole. There are certainly some and from what I have heard Obama is doing pretty well in polling with the military.

Romney's claim is that his experience in business and running the Olympics is good training for the presidency.

When one of his companies went bankrupt he just bought another one. If his presidency went bad he could move somewhere else, but the rest of us don't have that opiton. We have to make it work with the country we have now.

When he got in trouble in the Olympics he went running to the government for a bailout to fix the problem.  All of his connections and contacts in Washington won't help a bit if he was running the country. There isn't anyone for the president to ask for a bailout.

Obama gets this. He is not going to do something rash based on assumptions that haven't been examined. He knows that if he screws up the country is screwed, and he takes that seriously.

I want some of that Whitehouse brew. Funny how we haven't heard any leering references from fox about Billy Beer. I'd welcome it. Bring it on.

I need witnesses present for a beer with Romney...Mormon witnesses.

Why do you take two mormons fishing?
Cause, if you only take one, he'll drink all your beer.

Only trouble:  In NOTLD, the uptight whitey Mittbot2012 character ends up being correct:  the cellar was the safest place. ;P

All of Romero's films (even his non-zombie stuff like 'Knight Riders' and 'Martin') have a serious radical left wing outlook.  Love the man, his movies and his message.

profile pic. The gill-man is my hero. We live about an hour from Wakulla Springs where the underwater sequences for The Creature From the Black lagoon were filmed. About seven years ago I met Ben Chapman when he was visiting the springs for a horror fest. He was a very nice man. Growing up in Florida and learning scuba dive when I was a kid - I wanted to be the Gil-man. Hell - I still do.

      •  So you met Gill-Man! (0+ / 0-)

Awesome!  I was born in 1978, and caught the first wave of 50's 3D nostalgia during the early 1980's.  We used to get those funky Red/Blue glasses free at Burger King and then watch 'The Blob' or 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon' on TV.

I have a lifelong love of horror flicks and am convinced that there is more sociological/political content in that genre then in the remaining 99% of Hollywood.

  •  You are so right (0+ / 0-)

I've worked with lots of people in that age group and although somewhat confused by the whole zombie-apocalypse obsession it is undoubtedly there.

It would be hard to imagine any of them wanting Mittens at their side....although if he truly is a robot their eyes might gleam at the possibilities.

Thanks for the fun thought. Although I know there are young republicans I fortunately only work with one.
