We have all heard the "who would you like to sit down and have a beer with?" question for deciding who to vote for for president. I've found a better question when dealing with the 18 - 45 year old male demographic. This is going to sound stupid to some of you. But I have friends and acquaintances who could careless about politics. My solution for persuading some guys is below the orange bio-hazard squiggle.
The question is "who do you want on your team when the zombie apocalypse comes and the shtf: Obama or Romney?". So far I haven't found anyone that would choose Mittens. There are Romney characters in zombie movies. The best is played by Dennis Hopper in the "Land of the Dead" (2005). Hopper's character, Paul Kaufman, is a perfect projection of Mitt Romney in a zombie world.
In the "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) the main character, Ben, reminds me of Obama. The part of Ben was surprisingly enlightened for 1968. A serious African-American character who could take command of a situation and do what was necessary without apologies or asking permission. George Romero deserves a lot of credit for "Night of the Living Dead" as a horror movie that explored dark side of human nature and encapsulated the 1960's a-world-gone-mad feeling.
For those of you who feel that talking about zombies trivializes the election, my answer is - I will say anything that is true and honest to convince someone to vote for Obama. If this analogy makes them see who the better man is all for the good. I'm all for anything, truthful, that motivates them to get into the voting booth and pull the lever, punch the card or touch the screen for Obama and the down ballot Democrats.
Lets face it many of the voters we're talking to on the phone and door to door are none political (is that an oxymoron - voters who don't care about politics). My own sister just asks me who she should vote for when an election comes around. I give a short synopsis and make sure she has the right name, and she goes in and votes. Anytime, I try to say more she starts talking about how she doesn't trust any politician they're all bad etc, etc.
Trust me with a certain politically detached demographic the zombie apocalypse question works. I plan to keep it in my GOTV bag of tricks.
