On Morning Joe this morning, Chris Matthews just showed how it's supposed to be done.

RNC Chair Reince Priebus was trotting out the Romney talking points about how Obama is "stealing" from Medicare. How removing the "work requirement for welfare" is moving us towards socialism.  How Obamacare is a disturbing result of foreign, European influence.

The Joe panel just nodded approvingly -- But Matthews was having none of it.

After confronting the RNC Chair on the recent gutter attacks of Romney embracing Birtherism and Dog-whistle racism, Chris proceeded to give Reince as brief history lesson about Health Care in America.  Roughly put:

Let me tell you something about 'foreign influence.' There is a long history of American Presidents fighting for Health Care Reform in America.

Theodore Roosevelt fought for it.  Franklin Roosevelt wanted it. President Truman called for universal health care -- Were they under 'foreign European influence?'

To which, Priebus was left mumbling and stumbling. And at one point, the dumbfounded Reince refused to answer, for want of being "unfairly attacked again."

After making a few awkward jokes about "the Hurricane coming to Tampa early" -- Joe Scarborough and crew shushed Chris, hurriedly went to break -- to they could rush Chris off the set.

WTG Chris Matthews.  Way to confront this 'foreign influence' nonsense for the garbage it is.

If only more Media Pundits would confront them on their baseless charges. Enough of the "free pass" when they flat out lie and disrespect the office, that they are trying to claim.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
